Dizzy recommendation...

Building a SBC for a WISSOTA midwest mod. My engine guy is suggesting a Streetfire MSD… not sure I want a Chi-Com dizzy on that motor. I'm thinking of using the billet MSD… any comments?

Double check rules. I think you have to run a stock style distributor. If you ask me you cant go wrong with a DUI.

The crane with the optical Pick up is the most accurate and individual cylinder timing is adjustable but it's like 900 for the distributor

WISSOTA RULES…

Distributors. Stock O.E.M. distributors only. Billet distributors allowed. No multiple-spark
boxes. No magnetos or dual-point distributors allowed. Any coil used must fit in stock
cap and must use stock coil cover. Adaptacap allowed. GM H.E.I. Distributor can be
interchanged with Ford and Mopar engines.

So I guess a billet MSD would be ok but NOT the cheap Chi-Com since it's cast? Honestly I'm not a big fan of the HEI style dizzy but I guess that's what will be in the car.

Too bad I can't run a 1940's technology dual point… boy that would be a killer set-up… not.

I know several who like the MSD caps and coils, MSD modules if you can. Rebuild your own dizzy and save money for tires instead,

I could go real cheap and put a Pertronix in place of the point dizzy I have… may just rebush a GM distributor and install a good cap/coil deal...

I think that's what we will be doing. I asked a guy who does a lot of vintage hot rod stuff how much to have him redo an HEI… $380.00!!! I don't think so….

Well I just bought a box of parts that included a Chi-com MSD knock-off dizzy. I guess we'll try this with a new name brand module and we'll keep the Accel coil that's on it...

I would get those hot rod billet dizzys with forged gear and MSD stuff off eBay. Take the MSD off it and replace with DUI module, cap, coil, and rotor. Would cost half of a brand new DUI.
