Oil Pan and Pump...What to buy? Opinions please

Currently having a 358 being built, starting off brand new this year with an SHP block and new everything else. This is a limited late model series at Virginia Motor Speedway. One of the few things we haven't budgeted for was the the oil pump and pan. I just spoke with him and he stated that whatever I get, I will NOT need a high volume pump, it just robs horsepower. He states we will be able to spin up to 8000 but I am thinking more like 7600-7800. Too many options out there, just like too many cereals in the cereal section of the grocery store. Budget is somewhat limited as I am active duty military. I like and have seen Pro/Cam pans at my track but they are pricey.

Opinions please!

I use Canton and some Champ pans both seem to work very well Listen to your builder on a oil pump as he seems to more knowledge of what going on more then most people.

On the SHP block don't use the cam bearings with 3 holes!!

I borrowed a Champ pan from a friend and using it made my own from scratch. I put about 8 hours in to the fabrication but I saved a lot of money and bought new tires.

Thanks for the inputs so far. I am currently leaning towards the Canton 11-180 with their standard pressure reworked pump 21-500.

Canton, Champ, and ProCam are excellent products. You won't go wrong with any you choose.
