Looking for some help for a friends sport mod 602 crate. What oil is everyone running? What weight brand etc? What's timing supposed to be at? Are you guys blocking out the vacume advance on these? Any other useful knowledge we should know?

every engine builder and every reacer has their favorite oil and will swear by it-----here at Race-1 we don't have anything bad to say about the popular brands on the market as the oil chemists have stepped up their technology to create some good products for the modern day engine----(I am sure they copy each other quite a bit)
but anyway----the question becomes what is the best viscosity (weight) for my engine
we always recommend a multi viscosity oil for wet sump engines---the first number is the cold viscosity and the second is the hot viscosity the second number in our opinion for a GM crate engine should be 40
this is based on bearing clearence and lifter attitude-----there are a million other opinions out there but thats what we do in our engines and it has been succesful (our favorite brand is Gibbs and we use XP9)
as for timing -------if you don't have to use the GM HEI then get rid of it----if your rules say you MUST use that distributor or a clone to it and if it must have advance then check out Ryan Brown's website
