power valve yes or no?

Whats everyone's opinion on rear power valves? I have a quick fuel e85 ct850 and having a over heating issue. My jets are squared up 86's front and rear and power valves front and rear. Im gonna jet the carb up but have been told two different methods. Remove rear pv and jet up.accordingly or keep pv and square jets. I can make it thru hot laps and and heat race but midway thru feature im 230+ and have to pull off. Motor is a 13 to 1 alum head 383 in a ump mod.

The carburetor makes a poor choice in managing temperatures. The PV is an integral part of the fuel curve and removing it isn't a good idea either.
Oil has two primary jobs. The first is to cool and the second is to lubricate.
What's your oil temps look like?

What do your spark plugs look like, it wouldve probably burned a piston by now if it wad that lean. Make sure your using a 4 blade high pitch fan centered in a shroud and about a 3/4" restrictor in t-stat housing.

Everything is the same as last year when we were on gas and had zero problems. Plugs were showing lean so we fattened it up but I think I went a little too far. Temps are good now but restarts are TERRIBLE!

back your jets of a couple if it's stumbling on restarts you migt need to change your timing just a bit for the e85.

The timing made it a bit better. I went down to 34 and it didnt like it and ran much better at 36.

Hard to believe a carb out of the box, be that far off to change engine temp. The right fuel curve will not overheat a motor.
Just for the picking up the gas stumble I would install smaller cams on the accelerator pumps. A quickie at the track you can tighten the adjuster on the pump arms and make a small gap.
