Does anyone know where to find the dorton carb specs that a lot of tracks say a holley 2 barrel can be modified to. A Web search for dorton 0-80583-1 specs just comes up with all these tracks that allow the mods but nobody says exactly what those specs are.

That don't give you throttle shaft size or booster location or what can and can't be done to metering block or air bleeds. I would like to find all the specs that dorton says is correct and legal. It's interesting that so many tracks use that as the standard for being a legal 2 barrel but you can't find these specs on the Internet. Is everyone just guessing what is ok and what's not. As an example if you ran a billet metering block would that be legal and if not which I'm guessing it isn't where is that written

I see your pain with rules that just say "Dorton specs" but technically the specs I gave above are the Dorton specs as provided by Holley. I say anything outside of those specs............is fair game to exploit the rules.I'm sure you could blueprint the booster location. The throttle shaft size is determined by the part number for that item as listed above. I would say the billet metering block isn't legal because the carburetor didn't come with one. The metering block part number is listed per above. The specs of that particular metering block can be found in the holley technical data. They, IMO, are more concerned with the configuration sizing of the throttle blade and venturi diameter. Go-no go gauge.I would also assume you couldn't use a booster that wasn't the standard down leg booster per the part number listed above. I don't see why you couldn't alter the booster. (thinning, lipping for airflow etc) I don't see why you couldn't alter the throttle shaft, I see no reason you couldn't alter the metering blocks, I see no reason you couldn't alter everything on the carb as long as it was using the appropriate part numbers and maintained the venturi and throttle bore diameters.Annular discharge boosters etc would be out per those specs because it calls for 2 downlegs, I'm assuming that's the "spirit" of the rule?Perhaps you can call the sanctioning body or track and ask?BUCKLE UP NOW, YA HEAR?
