    Is there a hp. difference between internal and external balance crank.?I run mod class and have a 406. ready. but i was told im giving up hp. with a external crank?So my question is what am i leaving on the table?

    The point they are trying to make is the polar moment of inertia. The closer the weight is to the center of rotation the quicker rate of acceleration. Nother words it revs faster. External balance is usually at the outer edge of the flywheel vs. the internal is on the counterweight on the crank.

    You are not giving up HP; the acceleration is slower.

    If you are starting from scratch, ya get the internal.

      internal is the only way to go. dont fool with external for a engine with stroke such as 383 or 406....you are asking for trouble in the long run
