I’m white. There are plenty of merit-based grants and scholarships. I graduated from a public university with $28,000 in student loans after 5 years and went straight into a $50,000/yr job in 2013.

I agree that crossing illegally is a crime. My position on illegal aliens has changed some what over time. I saw some stats recently that only about 30% of the people we deport south are violent criminals and/or gang bangers, a lot of the rest were employed, paying taxes and some even were small business owners with homes. I use to hold the view that if your here illegally you should just be deported, period. Now my POV has changed somewhat, yes crossing illegally is a crime, but what should the penalty for that be? I mean what if your here, you prove yourself a valuable member of society, you pay taxes, you aren't a threat. Why not reward these deserving souls with citizenship and maybe a fine for breaking the law. I mean I have some dudes that were born here that live on my street who aren't hispanic that I'd trade for some of these hard working guys... Just a thought.
