Great week of racing starting with Terre Haute and the Hulman Classic that was won by "Sunshine" Tyler Courtney. Good race, not great, but entertaining for sure.
After spending the night at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds in Terre Haute and packing up Thursday morning we head to Speedway, IN. After getting settled in our backyard campsite we head to the Indiana State Fairgrounds for the Hoosier Hundred USAC Silver Crown race. Kody Swanson drove a superb race and won his 4th Hoosier in a row, tying Al Unser Sr.'s record of consecutive HH victories.
Went out to Lucas Oil Raceway on Friday night and watched Kody win again in a Silver Crown car. Only this time it's on pavement.
Saturday night of Memorial Day Weekend is always a highly anticipated event at Anderson Speedway in Anderson, IN. The Little 500 is the only event of it's kind in the country. 33 wingless 410 sprint cars, 11 rows of 3 just like the big 500 but it's 500 laps on a banked 1/4 mile asphalt track. Push start green flag infield pit stops. The leader is into traffic in less than 10 laps at the initial green flag and on all subsequent restarts. Kody Swanson is again the winner making him 3 for 3 on dirt and asphalt in 2 completely different types of cars. Kody is very good and deserves a shot at the big time, if anyone does.
The Indy 500 was a boring disappointment compared to the last 5 or 6 500's. Indy Car, in their infinite wisdom changed the aero package on the cars and whatever they did made the race a 500 mile bore. I hope they get it sorted out before next year or they'll be heading down the same path as NASCAR if they're not careful. How they could screw the cars up this bad is beyond fathom. We love the Indy 500 and always will but after 5 or 6 of the best races we've ever seen in May at Indy this year was one of the biggest letdown's we can ever remember from one year to the next.
We look forward to this past week starting in January and it goes by way too quickly. God willing we'll do it all again next May!!
