Just heard that Mr. Dwight Clark passed away yesterday. Very sad. Clark was one of the greatest wide receivers ever to play in the NFL. He was not only really, really good he was humble and always displayed class and dignity. Something sorely missing from the game and society as a whole these days.
One of the greatest touchdown catches in the history of the NFL was made by Mr. Clark. That catch basically ended the rein of arrogance of the Dallas Cowboys of that era. It happened in the 1982 NFC Championship game. Twice that season the 49ers not only beat the Cowboys but they quietly and methodically rubbed their collective noses in it. That game, and more specifically that catch, made me a 49ers fan then and to this day. The touchdown catch that Mr. Clark made that day back in 1982 is so famous and significant in NFL history it's universally known simply as "The Catch". Everyone who knows anything about NFL football knows the game, what team lost that day, the quarterback who threw the pass, and who caught it. That's the definition of famous.
Those 49ers teams of that era were some of the best in the history of football and they were classy and they didn't cheat! Dwight Clark probably best exemplified the class and dignity of those great teams.
