On This Day 41 Years Ago Today, October 20, 1977................

The band Lynyrd Skynyrd was on an airplane enroute to Baton Rouge, Louisiana when it crashed into a swamp near Gillsburg, Mississippi. Lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist Steve Gaines and Steve's sister Cassie Gaines were killed and the several other members of the band were seriously injured.

All but one of the original band members are deceased.

RIP to all members ofLynyrd Skynyrd who have passed away.

    Great band.

Saw them play at a Holiday Inn in Columbus, GA just before they made it big... Some of the best music ever.

When they all moved out of Jacksonville, they moved to my community!

My claim to fame.....me and a buddy pulled Billy Powell out of his wrecked van. He had ran into the ditch on the opposite side of the dirt road. He wasn't hurt, just got his leg stuck between the van and the ditch. He was moaning like he was dying...he was just DRUNK! When we got to his house, he took out a $20 and said he would burn it if we didn't take it......of course, we took it! LOL

My favorite band of all time......and not because of the $20! LOL
