It's Sad How Low NASCAR Has Fallen, Bristol Is The Latest Example

I ran across this online article describing how truly embarrassing things have gotten for NASCAR Cup racing.

One huge atta' boy to Mr. Clint Bowyer for correctly pointing out how incredibly out of line ($300 a night) the pricing is at the low level hillbilly hilton motel's near BMS.

One huge "kiss my ass" to Marcus Smith for implying that the onsite camper rental is a much better deal at $300 a night than some nearby Super 8. Really?! Smith caps off his fairy tale by saying if the racing is good they will fill the place up........again! Riiiiiiiight! Marcus, you and NASCAR have long since pooped in your collective nests and unless you do away with the gimmicks as well as lower the cost of attendance race fans ain't ever comin' back.

I wonder what the hell fantasy land the author of this article, Jenna Fryer, is living in! She's still blaming the economic downturn of over a full decade ago for the lack of attendance! Wake up lady, it's gimmicks like the lucky dog BS that allowed Have-a-wreck Harvick to come from 4 laps down to finish 13th on the lead lap. He can't do that without the gimmick's, thus it ain't real.

I didn't watch the Bristol race but when I saw the totally empty seats on both ends I found that to be more than cringe worthy. They better do something soon or there won't be anything left to save!!

Plain and simple.......the "modern" fan is NOT a true race fan! I bet very few attend any dirt races!

It won't be long 'till the Eldora NASCAR Truck race will be outdrawing half of the races on the Cup schedule. Hell, the Knoxville Sprint Car Nationals probably outdraw some of the Cup races right now.

Said it many times but it bears repetition, schedule a race on one or both of the remaining 1 mile dirt tracks suitable for auto racing still in existence. Drop California, Indianapolis, one of the Pocono races, one of the Michigan races and one of the Atlanta races off of the schedule. Also, schedule a Cup race at Iowa.

We are no longer an automobile oriented culture like past decades. I don’t blame NASCAR for that, where I do hold them responsible is not understanding their customer and the changing dynamics that have influenced racing and how to evolve. It’s as if they are sitting on their thumbs hoping against hope that something changes, that’s a bad formula for any business. If they think it’s bad now wait until another economic downturn hits. What I don’t understand is why there isn’t more outward revolt by non NASCAR owned track promoters and by some of the upper tier teams. Maybe it’s there but it manages to stay under the radar.

Frankly, I enjoy Nascar as much as ever. Several of the problems Nascar has are evident.

1. No real Star Power. I do not know how they fix that. I personally like a lot of the guys and really do not need one driver to hang my hat on. Even though I was a big Stewart fan because I watched him from the time he was a kid, his leaving did not change my interest one bit.Elliot, Gordon, E Jr. and Sr along with Stewart really were the stars to love or hate. As for Ejr, on love apparently LOL
2. Cost of going to the Races. That got way out of control.
3. Competitive racing. Although they are working hard to make it better. Short tracks are always good.
The others are iffy. Because of the star power dominate racing on larger tracks went a lot more unnoticed IMO.

Nascar will survive though. Change will continue, but they will survive. I still enjoy it and never miss a race or practice. DVR everything LOL though

Just a question for you. I don't disagree with your sentiments towards Eldora but have you ever attended an ARCA race on one of the Illinois 1 mile dirt tracks? I've been going to Springfield for the ARCA race every year since I graduated and haven't missed one at Du Quoin since 1996 and more often than not the racing has been very, very good. I think even you would like it, Clay!! Hahahaha.

Frankly, I enjoy Nascar as much as ever. Several of the problems Nascar has are evident.

The star power you speak of is there but just not in the form that pleases the likes of you. We're beginning to see the career of one of the 2 or 3 greatest drivers of all time wind down and he may never receive the credit and reverence he's due from clowns like yourself. Simply because he has manners and a good upbringing and NEVER acts a fool.

Your condescending declaration that NASCAR will survive may prove to be a bit premature. When the TV money runs out, which is down the road a piece, and the sponsorship money dries up for the series and for the teams, and every race on the schedule but 1 or 2 starts losing money the day of reckoning will be upon them. There may be a NASCAR but it won't be what we've known for 70 years.
