NASCAR has finally come to their senses and are going back to single car qualifying!!! It's about time! Group qualifying is an F1 thing and has no place in stock car racing.

Now, if NASCAR would find the acumen and wisdom to incrementally do away with all the rest of the silly gimmicks, run more short tracks and last but not least, schedule a couple of races on dirt tracks!!! They just might begin to win back some of us who abandoned them years ago and garner some new fans! Problem is, there may not be anyone who has the good sense to do all the above, but single car qualifying is a start.

Doubt NASCAR can save itself from doom. It has dangled over the edge of the abyss so long that a large segment of its former fan base has developed other interests and could care less about returning. I was one of those individuals. I see the same thing happening with dirt track racing but there, it's a lack of interest by the younger generations.

If you and the former fan base "could" care less then there still is a degree of interest, so all is not lost.

jog, I too am not optimistic that NASCAR can be saved in it's present iteration even if they, by some freak of nature, wise up and do away with all the silly gimmicks. However, I gave up IndyCar for dead about 7 or 8 years ago. Now, I'm not saying IndyCar is where it was in the 1980's & 90's, but they've made significant strides with regards to overall interest. And, it's undeniable that the IndyCar oval track racing is about as good as it gets these days.

If IndyCar can make a noticeable bounce-back it's surely possible for NASCAR to make the changes needed to regain at least a portion of interest they once enjoyed.

I'm not opposed to group qualifying in principle. Knoxville does group qualifying for their weekly sprint car races. It just doesn't work with NASCAR's current rules package.

As with most things, it's all in the eye of the beholder. I do not, nor have I ever, enjoyed group qualifying at any level. The racing we most enjoy attending these days success in qualifying is at a very high premium. We really want to watch, without diversion of our attention, every car/driver combination. Group qualifying forces the viewer to make a decision who to watch. Our first and foremost preference is single car qualifying. However, if that isn't possible then go to a pill draw/passing points system and to hell with qualifying. We don't mind the added time needed for single car qualifying in the least. If we're that pushed for time we'll stay home and watch it on PPV or read about it the next day.

As I said previously, it's all in the eye of the beholder. I'm just at a loss as to what the added entertainment value consists of with group qualifying. Especially if there are time constraints.

I don’t find anything exciting about qualifying whether it’s single car or group. The advantage to group is it takes less time. I’d rather there just be a pill draw or invert based on points standings and get to the fun part, racing.

Qualifying of the USAC Silver Crown dirt cars on a 1 mile oval is not only extremely important since they start the first 22 cars straight up, but the fast guys put on a hell of a show in qualifications and I want to see it!! The wingless sprints and midgets also put on a great show in spite of the fact there is only one car on the track at a time and I also want to see that, too. I will admit that the dirt late models aren't all that entertaining in single car qualifying.
