We Say Goodbye To Another Great Driver

Just read a press release out of England that Nikki Lauda has passed away yesterday due to complications resulting from a lung transplant he underwent 9 months ago.

Many of you probably don't know much about Lauda, and I must admit I'm no expert on F1 racing but it's been widely accepted that Nikki Lauda was one of the best F1 drivers of all time.

If you want to watch a very entertaining auto racing movie go rent, or find it free off of the internet, a movie called "Rush". The movie deals with the racing lives, times and intense rivalry of James Hunt and Nikki Lauda. As I said, I'm not into F1 all that much but this movie is very good and deals with a most ironic contrast of driving style and personal behavior of Hunt and Lauda. I'd bet most of ya'll would like it.

REST IN PEACE MR. LAUDA, you were one of the very best at what you did.

Indeed ! The fact that he survived that terrible crash in 1976 with those horrible burns says a lot about the man.

Lauda was given last rites more than once following that crash at Nürburgring in 1976. During Lauda's rehabilitation he was assured by doctors that his racing career was essentially over. In fact, he missed just 2 races and competed in the Italian Grand Prix just 6 weeks following the Nürburgring crash. At his first race back at Monza following his injuries at Nürburgring the burns on his head were still open wounds. After finishing 4th at Monza he was seen peeling blood soaked bandages off of his head.

Anyone who would put Eldrick Woods recent comeback in the same category as Lauda's comeback should reexamine their logic because there is positively no comparison.

I can't imagine the effort it took for him, and guys like Roger McClusky and others) to come back from hellacious injuries like burns.

I've beeen on fire twice... not very pleasant.

        RIP Mr Lauda

Honestly Clay, I've never been there. But I'm inclined to take your word for it.

I was on under the impression that you were on CIRF's " ignore " list ? Why tout the accolades of one of his admired open wheel drivers when time after time you've made it perfectly clear of the hatred of a nascar driver and his crew chief that he respects ?
