Went to the track on July 4 and my daughter was one of the trophy presenters that night.

Dan Wheeler (RED1 Racing) pulled from Savage, MN to Great Falls, MT (just under 1,000 mile tow!) and won the Wissota B Mod event. After winner's circle pictures were taken, he gave my daughter the trophy back for her to keep! Talk about an excited and happy race fan; she still beams when she takes it off the shelf to look at it!

So, even though we don't agree about everything as a community, I just wanna say thanks to EVERYONE who put their resources into bringing joy and entertainment to the fans that share an interest and love of racing. And a special thanks to those who are willing to give someone else the shared experience of a win!

I know it's meant as a joke, but this shows that you're just as self centered and incapable of caring or being emphatic toward another person or their situation as President Trump is.

Guy pulled 1k miles and won.....he's good.

Guy pulled 1k miles, won and gave up his trophy to a young fan.........he's very, very cool and a great ambassador for the sport.

Thanks for sharing......a lot of good stuff goes on like that in dirt racing, just gets under reported.

I thought that article in Area Auto Racing News that time was pretty cool. A guy named Cecil Gallup passed away. He had been the main guy in charge of track prep at McKean County Raceway in PA. They had a big memorial race there to honor him. They invited Chub Frank to come run it because it was an off weekend for the touring series he was with at the time. He won the race and the widow was there. Chub explained that he knew how hard it was to work a track and all of the hours that are put in to do it properly because of him growing up at a speedway and working with his Dad at it. He then gave Cecils widow the nice big trophy. She was full of tears and the crowd gave a standing ovation for the gesture. He made several more new fans that day.

BBQBoy - Might thoughts too. Dan's come to MT a couple times and always puts in a great show and is a class act wherever he runs.

Raceready - Great share! If I remember right, Chub ran the STARS series that would come to I-79 Speedway in Shinston, WV in the 90's. Never got to see him run much in person, but when the 1-Star was there, it made me happy. Now I know it's cause the driver is a good soul!

Rock Degele, a Late Model/A-Mod/Super Stock driver, gives his trophies to the little fan presenters around here too. Doesn't have to pull quite as far (about 275 miles), but indeed another ambassador for the sport.

Was you there for any of the Mountain State 100s ? I believe it was 91 when Joe Meadows and Chub exchanged the lead twice a lap nearly every lap. Chub was ahead for about 8 laps and then lost just enough power that Joe would be a nose ahead at the flag stand after that, clear to the end. Of course Joe won by a bumper. When Chub opened his hood up in the pits he found that a rock or some other debris had hit a spark plug just right and broke the plug in half and it and the wire was laying on in agin the exhaust header, thus the reason for the power loss. Also if I recollect correct, Chub won both STARS races in the last year that the track was open to the public before the auction place bought up the piece of land that was part of the track.

One of my most prized pieces of racing memorabilia is a photo of joe and Chris meadows racing the mods that they signed and put a cool message on for me back in the day.

Those guys are both down to earth and represent the state of WV , the racing there and themselves very very well.

I don't think I made it to I-79 until the '93 season and most of the time I got to go was cause I was wrenching on someone's car. It sounds like you know the track well, so you can imagine the difficulty of trying to watch a race from the pits. I grew up going to Elkins Speedway/Raceway (Corridor H) and do remember seeing Joe Meadows run there a time or two. Elkins never really got many of the big name or tour guys, except the Forest Festival race would usually pay more and then a few would come.
