    Indianapolis 500 Postponed

Just was announced that the 104th running of the Indianapolis 500 will be postponed until August 23rd.

We figured this was coming and sure enough. Glad they gave everyone a good amount of time to change plans.

The biggest 1 day sporting event in the world is not something that can be juggled around on a moments notice. This has never happened in 104 years and I'm sure there is plenty of uncharted territory at hand.

No doubt about it, fcg. But, given the fact that the engine is behind the driver and there is no heat producing components anywhere near the driver should help with the heat factor.

I've attended the Indy 500 every year since I was small child, 35 of them to be exact. An August running will have a very strange feel to it. But I'm sure that once the green flag is thrown it will feel much like the other 103 500's that have been run.

I just read that the Little 500, which is run up at Anderson Speedway on the Saturday night prior to the Indy 500 is still scheduled to be run on May 23rd. We have tickets for that and hopefully things are under control to the degree that the Little 500 will go off as planned.

The Indy Grand Prix that is contested by the Indy Cars on the Indy road course, which under normal circumstances is run 2 weeks prior to the Indy 500, will be run in conjunction with the NASCAR Cup race at Indy on Independence Day. The Indy GP will be on Saturday the 4th of July with the Cup race on Sunday.

On July 1st & 2nd the USAC National Midgets will run on the dirt track in the infield area of turn #3 of IMS. I will be interested to see whether the NASCAR Cup cars, the Indy Cars on the road course or the USAC Midgets on the dirt track draw the biggest crowd! I definitely know which event will fill their respective grandstands and it won't be NASCAR or Indy Car!
