CIRF was talking about the 60s and early 70s. NASCAR was getting better by 1984.

The 1970 sand lapper 200 in Columbia was won by Bobby Isaac over the king .....they were on the same lap.

Just fact checked that one first because I'm pretty sure I was actually at that race with my dad and knew the king didn't finish a lap down.....but I'm older now and just wanted to be sure I remembered correctly.

I think you misread my post. I wrote two cars on the lead lap. Third was one lap down.

I built my first car because a guy had won every race all year in the hobby stock division. trophy dash, heat race, main event about 20 nights... I had just bought a house so I had a garage, I was 23 years old and in the military so making about 1100 a month. I walked the pits some for the last half of the season and felt like I could be the one to break that streak, straight out of the stands. I built a used nova, towed with a tow dolly and finished top 3 my first two races and won the 3rd.

From that day on I shared what I knew to help everyone. I was already seeing people come in spend tons of money, not have fun and leave in my first year.

6-7 years later I was in the sportsman class and won every race I finished and would regularly lap to 2nd or 3rd, all that did was hurt car count and have them keep stacking weight on my car....

That should be the goal of every racer.......dominate the class within the rules. Unfortunately, tracks want to penalize racers for building better mouse traps!

Yung Money won the truck race at Eldora and will likely win the Cup dirt race at Bristol due to the fact that he listened to tire management advise from the winningest driver in Eldora Speedway history! Hahahaha
