BBQ, I don't remember ever seeing a car as high in the air as Bacon was Wednesday night. The wingless 410 sprint cars on Terre Haute's big ol' 1/2 mile can produce some epic racing but it's a little scary in a Belleville High Banks kind of way!

I was at Knoxville for this one. I think it was a little higher than Bacon's wreck.

No matter whether it's #3 or #4 Helio won a fantastic race. The record will forever show 4 wins for him whether it's legit or not is all in the eye of the beholder. The pass for the win was made directly in front of where we were setting at the end of the front straightaway and the crowd noise was louder than the cars on the track despite the fact that there was only 135,000 souls in the stands. Special moments at a special place. What precious memories are made of!

Lapper cars helped Helio in my opinion. Palou let him by knowing a last lap draft was probably the best shot at winning. Off to Detroit where drama queen will fall quickly off the leader board.

Castroneves drove a great race. His pass for the lead was at the right time with 2 to go and yes the lap cars did seal the deal for him but, his move with 2 to go was the move of the day.

This years 500 was an ass kicker in my book, really enjoyed it, bummer for Rahal, there is nothing like the 500, still in my view the biggest race in the world and the crowd sure showed some emotion for helio, great race.

Maybe. I reckon I wasn't as clear as I should have been for you man-bun/gamer boy types. It's the highest I've ever seen a car at an event where I was actually in the stands. I've only been to Knoxville twice and it was for the Cornbelt Clash which consists of real sprint cars. You know.....the ones without the crutches/wings. Don't remember anyone getting in the air at those events.

Only if you're a tunnel vision dirt late model sectarian with a little jealousy thrown in. They allowed only 40% spectator capacity and they still put 135,000 in seats. That's with no one in the infield. Some ill informed creatures may consider some joint in nowhereville, Ohio that max's out at something just over 20,000 is the embodiment of the golden calf of all of racing. However, there is a big auto racing world out there and at the top of the list is an event that is far and away the largest single day sporting event in the world and it ain't held at Eldora Speedway.

I've been to the Cornbelt Clash as well. I'll unfortunately miss it this year because we'll be on a road trip to Yellowstone that week. Weird that on the previous page you were talking positively about both winged and non-wing sprint cars but now you are talking trash.

I too like watching the wingless cars much more than the wingers but that's just me and I'm in no way putting down the winged cars. I've been told by a couple of guys who have won both WoO's/All Star's Sprint Car races as well as USAC Sprint Car races that it takes equal talent, skill and stones to win in both but those aforementioned attributes are applied in much different ways.

I've been to the Cornbelt Clash as well. I'll unfortunately miss it this year because we'll be on a road trip to Yellowstone that week. Weird that on the previous page you were talking positively about both winged and non-wing sprint cars but now you are talking trash.

Nothing weird about it unless you're a man-bun/gamer boy. I stated exactly what a couple of drivers who have driven, and won while competing in both types of cars have said. I have never indicated that I enjoy watching wingless and wingers equally. I prefer wingless. Period. Thomas Meseraull and Kevin Thomas Jr. have both driven and won in both types and that is who I've heard say the skill set is different but equal.

What I posted in regards to wings being crutches is what I've heard a former USAC National Sprint Car Champion who has driven both, a very famous dirt driver who's now retired who won WoO races and at one time had won more All Star Circuit of Champions races than anyone and is 4th on the all time USAC Sprint Car win list say. If you think that's trash talk take it up with those drivers. Please be sure I'm there to watch! LOLOL!

99% of the time I'm in your corner but there is something magically special about Indy and more specifically the 500. I felt it the first time I laid eyes on the place as a sophomore in college without a care in the world other than having a cold beer in my hand and the chance that I would catch a glimpse or two of bare female breasts. The track and the race were a distant second to those priorities in those days! LOL!

Maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic but the place has gotten even more special over the years long after the obsession with cold beer and bare boobies faded into marital bliss and fatherhood. These days I make sure I have shades on when they play Taps and the butterflies of anticipation still flutter when they give the command and the field pulls away from the grid! It seems that every year we feel the presence of tradition, reverence and belonging tap us on the shoulder every time we walk through the gates. I know, I know, that all sounds very trite for a grown man and I reckon it is.

I'm sure many feel the same at Eldora on the weekend following Labor Day. I know I did for a long time!

Post # 27 sums it all up, I only went once, in 1982 and it was all it was said to be and then some. The opening ceremonies are so heart tugging and patriotic.

Y'all I am sure did not see it but I have told the story to CIRF of when Anthony Simone cleared the very tall 3rd turn fence at Manzanita with room to spare, landed in the junk yard and was greeted by a load of guard dogs who wanted his a$$ for dinner. Simone did the same thing at Ascot.

Simone was a fearless nut who would drive winged or no wing sprints with reckless abandon, outlaw Super modifieds and really was a nut driving Blown Fuel Hydros back in the NDBA days.
