I think we can refer to page twenty of this thread regarding unions, pay to work and union dues, and the real world realities there of, for future reference --- for many postings to come.

So essentially what you are saying in real world layman’s terms is --- Your union didn’t protect you at all like other better unions, and yours was a crappy union. Thus you paid union dues and got basically nothing in return, just paying to work, like others have said for a few years now.

You and ss12 need to get on the same page union wise, because he tells a much different union work place story to all of us than you do.

So you know, the above is a trick statement. Watch how you answer, and word your reply --- because one of you two are fibbing about unions. Then again, the cats already out of the bag, so a reply really isn’t necessary unless you want to.

As I like your real world “layman’s terms” view on unions better than what ss12 posts about unions, I’ll take it that you aren’t the one fibbing, and what ss12 posts to ALL of US about the grander of ALL unions is just more fibbing.

Not all unions are run the same. I just can't understand why you guys can't see that. The union I was in is a national union so, it's a pretty strong union. The dues I paid verses the benefits I received and the money was way worth it. When I retired I was paying 83.00 a month in dues and I was making 38.00 something an hour I had 3 personal days and 6 weeks vacation. I had a retirement from the union and the company and I have insurance through the company I worked for to this day. So I don't know about you but, that seems to me like a good trade off. My friend who still works there makes 42.00 an hour today. Not to bad for a guy who can't spell worth a crap. I didn't need to get in debt going to college to make a decent living. Like I said the group of guys I worked with all worked together and not against each other but, again I don't expect you to believe anything I said here. Nor do I care.

And NO ss12, I’m not jealous. I get paid well for what I do, I get great overtime $$$, my company benefits are wonderful --- and I don’t have to pay union dues to clock in like you and kidrock did.

I'm happy for you I just don't understand why you can't be happy for others who work their ---- of whether they are in a union or not. I don't begrudge anyone because they don't why begrudge those who do. We're all out trying to keep our heads above water and pay our bills have food on the table and a roof over our heads. We're responsible and not lazy, we went to work everyday and we weren't out robbing people but, Oh no you worked for a union and that's BAD. I think ss12 is right in that it seems like you guys are jealous. Just saying.

Lurker I have no clue as to what your talking about in regards to outing ss12 . ss12 didn't work in the same union as I did. Totally different union and not all unions are ran the same way. The union my wife was in was worthless for her job but, other employees had way more benefits then she did and it was the same union. Some of the employees had insurance and others did not. Thank God for my wife she was able to be on my insurance for years but, Now she has a different job and has insurance provided for her.

Sounds like good unions do exist, just like good employers do all across the country……..I was always happy to NOT PAY 83 bucks/ a thousand a year just to clock in. The benefits were similar.

So more money, better benefits and a much better retirement plan so, the 1,000 a year was way worth it in my opinion. I think of all the people who don't have a retirement coming in or don't even have insurance. If you or anyone else has a job that gives you that and you don't have to pay dues more power to you. There are plenty of non union employers that offer a very nice package of pay and benefits depending on your profession ……but being union indoctrinated for so long you don’t know what you don’t know. I understand your plight.

I think I read somewhere you worked in that union for 27 years? 27k is a bunch of money to fork out to clock in…..I’m sure collectively from everyone that bought alot of nice family vacations for the shop bosses and their families.

And that was worth every penny for the benefits I received. I know someone who is paying $1200 a month for health insurance. I have always had free health insurance thanks to the union. And Yes, I pay to have my wife on my health insurance which is just a little over a $100.00 a month thanks to the union.

My 1st two pension checks paid for every union due that I ever paid for. This September I will have been retired for 13 years. Even if I paid 600 a year for 32 years that would be $19,200. So far, I have made over a million dollars. To me that's a pretty good investment and was worth every union due I have ever paid. Thats not even counting my 2nd pension from the power plant.

More like double that possibly triple depending on what else they made you pay for under the “ dues” umbrella.
