Trucking company Yellow, which has operated for nearly 100 years and is one of the largest freight companies in the United States and the world, shuttered its doors on Friday after it failed to reach a new labor deal with the Teamsters. The decision means that around 30,000 workers have been laid off, and further ripple effects are expected across the US economy.
Way to go UNIONS!

Were the drivers on strike? The Teamsters have been a disaster for quite some time due to the massive unfunded liability with their pension when UPS pulled out of it. Like most freight and trucking companies, they are probably wanting to break away from the Teamsters contract. So probably shutting their doors was most likely the easiest option. I would guess they will open up non union in a years time when all is settled. Both sides blaming each other, everyone's different sided news outlets placing blame on one side or the other....I'd like to know the truth which is somewhere in the middle. It's just like the coal mines, both sides were to blame with that deal.

Consolidated Freight, Roadway, and Yellow Freight merged at one point to form YRC because of troubles. I know of a fellow that went through the Conway merger. When he first retired he would hang around everywhere bragging about how much he was bring in with his retirement fund being so good due to his teamster membership. Now every time there is a dust up he is whining about how he has had money taken away !

I was one of the first to say unions are no longer relevant in this country for the most part , I also said the union probably helped the rail way workers a wile back , and you would have to go way back to find another real example ,there may come a time when they are needed again , but not with the management they have now ( a few fat cat union bosses getting filthy rich of the backs of there members ) , large trucking company's is just another example ......

They were never going to negotiate with the Teamsters, because the company has been losing money hand over fist for years, because none of the brain trust thought to raise their prices. They lost like 80% of their business over the last few years even with their ludicrously low rates, because the customers knew this was gonna happen and they moved on to another carrier before it got real bad.
The Teamsters are using this to attempt to strong arm UPS in those negotiations. That’s pretty scummy.
