What are your thoughts about it? Again, I didn't look at the link.

But, if you've been paying any attention to what I've written you'd know this wouldn't break my heart. Patel and Bongino have been a couple of my biggest disappointments. I think when they brought Bailey in to be co-deputy director the hand writing was already on the wall. Ask yourself, when has there ever been a co-deputy director of the FBI at any time in the past? Never. Good answer. Bailey is smart guy and you don't see him on the talk show circuit. Good on him.

For those who don't really know, the director is a figurehead. The director sets goals and missions but the actual running of the FBI is done by the deputy director. That's a job I wouldn't wish on anyone and I think Bongino has been in over his head from the start. He had no inside experience. Sorry but being a NYPD cop and a once Secret Service agent ain't enough. The biggest mission for the rank and file of the FBI is the preservation of the FBI. Institution over constitution should be their motto. I can well imagine that when they both came in they got surrounded by a team of brown nosers and @ss kissers who acted like they were very glad to help them out. "Oh sir we're so glad to see you. Sir we've been waiting for guys like you, you're just what we needed. Sir we're here to help, this needs your attention, this needs your attention, let me help you set up your calendar for you." Surround them with busy work and insulate them from what they shouldn't see.

It didn't have to be this way. There were, and still are, some former FBI agents who were whistleblowers in the last admin who were ready, willing, and able to help. Former FBI agents who could have said, this is a good person to appoint, watch out for this one, these are good people to promote, these are some who should be gone, and these are people you can probably trust. That relationship fell apart pretty soon after Patel was given his job and it fell apart for a very stupid reason which has to do with a woman named Julie Kelly. I could tell you about that dust up but in the end Kash and Dan put their trust in a woman who knew nothing about the FBI and disregarded good solid information from those who did and they turned on those who could have really helped them make a difference without all the embarrassments.

Since then Patel has made one misstep after another by trying too hard to make people think he knows what he's doing. Put on the suit, go to work and do your job, and stay off the tube so much. But no. He gives me the impression that he's always trying to prove himself and all the dress up in the raid jackets and the garb makes him indeed look like the Make A Wish kid. All the flights on the FBI jet to go show up at hockey games, wrestling matches, and where his girlfriend might be singing a National Anthem isn't a good look. Having the Nashville FBI SWAT team as his girlfriend's personal protection detail is a worse look. Over promising and under delivering is another bad look and both of them guys have done that.

If he is on his way out (and Bongino too), it would not surprise me. It wouldn't hurt my feelings either because Bailey is waiting in the wings and he seems very capable.

People had high hopes for Patel and Bongino. They both had a whole lot to say in their days before they arrived at the FBI. They both captured a lot of attention, popularity, and some dollars with their claims of what they were going to do once they got the chance. It has fallen pretty flat. I remember the guy who said the Hoover Building should be shut down and made to be a monument to the Deep State. That guy now politics for more money, a bigger budget, and the FBI's needs for a new and bigger HQ. He sounds no different than Chris Wray or James Comey when they did exactly the same thing.

The FBI is often touted to be the - premier law enforcement agency - in this country, maybe the world. They are not a law enforcement agency, they are an intelligence agency and an investigative agency. They are not "cops". You can't dial 911 and ask for an FBI agent to show up at your house. It is not what they do. Your local cops or deputy sheriffs need probable cause to launch investigations, the FBI does not. The FBI can launch an investigation on anyone at anytime for any reason it deems necessary. The FBI can and does assist a lot of local law enforcement when they are often requested to and they can bring a lot of impressive resources to bear. But they are a stat driven agency so they often glom onto cases and arrests made by locals so they can inflate their own stats and take credit. Because, it gives them a reason to ask for more funding.

Want an example of this. In the wake of J6 the FBI went to TSA and asked for all the travel information in and out of the greater DC area in the days prior and after J6. TSA supplied those names and the FBI, without any actual investigation, took all those names and dumped them into a database labeled as people being domestic violent extremists (DVE). Then they went before Congress asking for more money because of an increasing threat of DVEs and the thousands more people they now had to watch. Where was the due process for those people? Many of those people on that list may have been in DC for reasons totally unrelated to activities on J6. But when your loyalty is devoted to the power of your agency and it is all about the agency, who cares.

That was the kind of stuff people were hoping to see some change on. Go after real threats and not created threats.

Kash Patel made a lot of noise about Chris Wray using the FBI jet all willy nilly. Turns out the FBI director is mandated to use the FBI jet because of security reasons. But, there are ways to be judicious about it. Patel jets around pretty much on pace with how often Chris Wray did. Spouses are often afforded protection for high risk individuals. But girlfriends?

During the last admin the FBI railroaded out whistleblowers. These were people who came forward and testified in front of Congress regarding things like the FBI targeting traditional Catholics as potential DVEs, parents who showed up at school board meetings to protest trans policies, etc. Patel could have righted that wrong on day one of his tenure. Patel did announce back in August/September that the FBI reached a deal with those people for potential reinstatement and back pay deals for the unjust suspensions. I only know of two names from that list of wrongly suspended agents who actually got the deal and one of those got his deal well prior to Patel ever taking the helm (Marcus Allen). I'm still waiting to hear what happened to Garrett O'Boyle who may be back, or may not be back, or may have finally received a deal after being wrongly suspended without pay for over a thousand days. Proven to be wrongly suspended and Patel could have fixed that on day one. There are still many others waiting. He let those guys down and it was an easy fix that he could have made. That's one of the big reasons why he disappoints me.

I think there are people doing a really good job in this admin. Bessent, Duffy, Rubio, Zeldin, Rollins, and some others. I think Bondi is out over her skis too many times. I want to see success but I don't think the FBI leadership is currently a pathway to that success.

That's just how I see it.
