I've preached since the early 80's that the kids need to be paid. Now that it's happening, I'm not so sure about million dollar plus deals. I think it's only going to get worse.

Nice to have CIRF drop by again. It's been a while and you usually add something interesting to the "conversations" on here.

I’d like hear his views on the NIL in college sports now and I agree with Highside Hustler on the kids need to be paid but not sure what is fair to all involved. I don’t think it’s fair for one kid to be making 20 million and some on the team not getting a red cent but what is the answer to satisfy everyone ?

Thank you immensely for the kind works over4T!! You're one of the few good guys that are active here that I enjoyed interacting with and I mean that sincerely. You are, or have been, involved to the degree that you have credibility that most here do not possess, including and especially me. I got to a point several years ago where the amount of my time I was allowing this place to consume was inordinate and I was neither entertained or informed as a result so I was compelled to correct the situation. Too many people not wanting to hear/see the truth or they would baselessly deny the truth and make it a top priority to attempt to discredit and/or insult me. I can live with that without thought, but I reluctantly came to the realization that it was a silly waste of time to credibly counter the stupidity when those I triggered were/are not the sharpest tool in the shed.

As far as this "we" bull$hit is concerned it's a matter of context.
Example: "we were very loud at the other teams' venue" or "we are a large part of the whole home game experience". That is perfectly correct and accurate in reference to context. However, when used in the context of "we should be run blocking much better" or "we should be putting more pressure on the opposing quarterback" it's hugely disingenuous. That is interjecting ourselves into a realm where we neither have physical or intellectual credence or credibility and would get our collective asses handed to us if "we" were actually in a position where "we" is used in proper context. "We" coming from myself, and people like myself with no real skin in the game is a joke whether they want to acknowledge it or not.

OMG, paying these kids is perfectly okay with me. However, in my opinion (the bottom line is, my opinion is worth what you are paying me for it, which is to say zero) there needs to be contractual guidelines and limits as to what degree of resources any given program is allowed to make available to players and have a fair pay scale available to players. I'm not intelligent enough to outline a workable plan and there may not be one that will withstand litigious scrutiny but there needs to be one in place, nonetheless. An example is The Ohio State University football program. It's credibly estimated that OSU's football program player payroll is between $35 & $40 million. I promise you that BIG Conference members Northwestern, Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Maryland, Rutgers and probably a few other BIG programs are not in financial position to compete with OSU's numbers. Again, I'm not smart enough to give you a workable alternative but someone is and it should be devised and implemented ASAP. I also believe that these players that are being paid should positively be required to carry a minimum number of core credit hour courses of study and maintain a reasonable GPA in those core studies.

This transfer portal is totally out of control, as well. There are players who have played for 3 or 4 different college programs through the course of their eligibility. Again, I'm not in position to offer a viable and fair alternative to this situation but someone is and hopefully the NCAA finds that person and indulges them to figure out a process that's fair and evenhanded to both the institution and the players.

Again, my views are derived from my version of common sense and are general and vague due to my lack of expertise.

I just seen earlier where the state of Mississippi has introduced a bill that would allow high school student athletes to receive NIL money. Boy this sh!t is going to get interesting.

                That is some crazy $hit!!

I graduated from a D1 institution that has many times through the years been in the national conversation in several different sports, including the high revenue sports of football & basketball. I will always be a huge supporter of all their sports programs but my days of ponying up grants in aids donations required to have decent seats at the revenue sports events and fund incredible player payrolls are numbered unless sanity is somehow brought to bear in regards to the aforementioned incredible player payrolls and the insane transfer portal bull$hit.

In spite of my faithful feelings regarding my Alma Mater I am finding myself drawn to division III football competition. We have several highly competitive D III programs quite close to us. The D III schools do not offer scholarships based on athletic performance. The financial assistance is based on academics, financial need of the student and his family, the athlete's academic goals such as their major and what they intend to do with their degree and the training that went with it. In simple terms D III is a much more pure environment with the love of the game and competition driving the aspirations of the players. Plus, the players have to actually attend class and maintain a reasonable academic performance.

The University of Chicago, which is a world renowned institution of the highest standards, was a charter member of what became the Big Ten Conference. The leadership of the university at the time foresaw what was to become of D 1 sports and U of C dropped out of the Big Ten Conference way back in 1939 and didn't resume football for 30 years. U of C is, and has been, a D III school. They could see what was coming all the way back in the late 1930's. Big money has poisoned big time college athletics and it's really quite sad.
