Here's an example that I sorted of hinted at with the horseshoe theory. The OU essay debacle.
The student was asked, for a psych course, to write a 650 word essay responding to an article about how people are perceived based on societal expectations on gender.
The criteria stated that (for 10 points) there must be a clear tie-in with the article, must be (for 10 points) a thoughtful reaction to the article and must (for 5 points) be clearly written.
The essay was written at a middle school level. The essay referenced nothing but the Bible and she mentioned the article for about 40 words in total. In fact she didn't even try to properly reference a verse. It was full of "I think" and "the Bible says". She also calls anyone that disagrees with her "demonic". And she had THREE months to work on it.
She absolutely deserved a 0. It is so bad that is screams setup. Her mother is reportedly a republican lawyer. She's now been given participation awards for OK congress members. If she starts a podcast soon we'll know it was a setup.
