Numbers don't always indicate anything. Pearson was three times the driver as Petty.Originally posted by CIRF View PostIt's easy to compare earnhardt to stewy but Petty and Pearson are in a class of their own and stewy doesn't measure up. Just look at the numbers.
Stewart is in the same class as Foyt and Andretti. He can and has won in multiple kinds of cars. Won the WoO sprint race tonight.
Stewart also won the USAC championships in midgets, sprints and Silver Crown cars in the same season.Last edited by slick01; 07-27-2011, 10:59 PM.43 races this year.

Three times the driver? LOL! I doubt very much if you'd even get Pearson himself to say something like that with a straight face.
Until stewy wins at Le Mans and a Formula 1 title and an Indy 500 or two he will always be considered several notches below Mario and A.J. His accomplishments just don't measure up to that level.
If you want to use the opinion over statistics theory, that's fine. Then it could be said stewys IRL title is badly tainted. Penske, Ganassi, Patrick Racing, Rahal-Letterman, Newman-Haas and Team Green were all racing in CART at that time and nearly all of the top drivers of that period were driving the cars owned by the aforementioned teams in CART as well. Stewy won the IRL championship driving cars for, by far, the best funded team (Team Menard) in the IRL running just 10 races against mostly second tier journeymen drivers in underfunded and understaffed teams.

CIRF, what I am saying is this: I have seen (and I am sure you have as well) drivers that have more talent than 95% of those top level drivers. Stats don't always indicate who is THE best driver. I concede your point if you include Le Mans and F-1 as I feel Mario is the best driver of all time. I just feel that Stewart is the about the only one out there capable of reaching that level. In regards to Pearson vs. Petty, Pearson may appear to be modest when discussing Petty but i can dog gone guarantee he feels he was better. Just compare the number of races he ran in.Originally posted by CIRF View PostThree times the driver? LOL! Folks, the original post was comparing NASCAR drivers. Not who was / is the most versatile driver in all types of cars. So that's why I brought up Petty and Earnhardt. Drivers like Foyt and Andretti were great, but they weren't NASCAR regulars. None of the other series is what racingfan101 was talking about, was he?

That's is what makes AJ's NASCAR record so amazing, he won the Daytona 500 and Firecracker 400, and USAC Stock Car Championships, not to mention two IROC Championships, with such a limited amount of startsLast edited by hogracer3d; 07-28-2011, 10:19 AM.
