Wish I'd have been around to see one of those races on the beach. A close friend of our family attended 2 of them before they built DIS.

He said Curtis Turner was so spectacular as he approached and made his way through The North Turn that Chris Economaki would keep track of when ol' Curtis was due to come stormin' up the beach with a stop watch and would get on the PA and holler "it's time for Turner".

He said Curtis would pitch the car sideways an 1/8th of a mile prior to the turn to scrub off speed to make it through the turn and out onto A1A. I guess that saved his brakes for the pavement side of the track and put on a show for the crowd. Even then it was about puttin' on a show.

          Thanks for posting.
