I don't think you could call what the Romans had a free market system, full of free people.

What i think is missing in this debate is the responsiblity of we the people. People as consumers are a powerful entity, corporations/businesses respond to consumers wants and demands and i think that is/has been forgotton.

Rome was as free market as this country at the time they wrote the Constitution. Rome the birthplace of Democracy, even though they mistakenly called it Socialism.

It's unregulated capitalism interfered with the function of government and pulled the whole system down. Look at every form of government that did not last and you see the same greed for money and power, unregulated has been it's demise.

As far as responsibility goes, All men have a certain amount of greed. The smart guy uses the greed of the uneducated to work in his favor. The uneducated buys cheap stuff at Wallmart to save a dollar,(greed). Wallmart shorts the working man on his wages to offer the cheap goods, (Greed). Wallmart can only do this if the lack of regulation permits it. Therefore they buy the regulations. Insert almost any major corporation instead of wallmart.

In order to do this, a business has to have volume. That puts a small business on the outside looking in. The small business is this countries economy.

Now are we going to vote against our own pocket book, which is very hard to do, or do we need regulation?
