When the money is on the line there is no one any better, nor has there ever been anyone better, at bringing home the cash.

He showed that once again tonight in the All Star race.

Congrats Jimmy, you're a pleasure to watch win and you do it with class, dignity and humility.

I'll never understand this. It's not the cookie-cutter tracks or outdated rules that matter. It's the level of competition, and that's where NASCAR excels, even over Formula 1, or any other motorsport. There are 20+ cars that are capable of winning at any event. Good luck finding that in any other sport. You won't.

Johnson/Knaus are arguably the best combo, maybe ever. Just look at the stats. After 10 years, that's all you can compare anyway.

Ambrose was the best V8 supercars had. He's average in Nascar
Montoya was the best CART had, and 7 F1 wins in 5 years. Average in Nascar
Franchitti, Hornish dominated IRL. Couldn't cut it in Nascar
Kinser is THE sprint king. Never had a prayer in Nascar.

Yet, look at the names that come from midgets, sprints, and off road racing. They were the best before they moved to Nascar. Why? Because Nascar is the top level of competition in motorsports. Period. Even if the technology is antiquated and they drive in circles.


Edit: Don't forget Fellows, or the other road course ringers. Tops of their sport, but can't cut it at the Nascar level

Stuck, what you're saying is absolutely correct. I'm not a big NASCAR fan whatsoever. I watch sometimes but our lives don't come to a halt every time a Cup race is on but I surely can appreciate the level of competition.

There was a time, though, when most of our free time and discretionary income went towards following NASCAR. I've grown disenchanted by many things in Cup racing these days but one thing is for sure, when you win as consistently and as dominatingly as Jimmy Johnson does it gets my attention. And, he does it without wrecking people and does it with class and dignity.

As far as the Johnson/Knaus combo is concerned they are right at the pinnacle but not quite where The King and Dale Inman were in the late 1960's and early 1970's IMHO. But, if JJ and Chad win a couple of more Cups and and another 30-40 races I will then have to concede them the title of best combination of all time.

One thing more, I DO NOT UNDERSTAND the knock on Jimmy Johnson in regards to his on camera demeanor. Are these people interested in the racing or are they more into what the drivers say and do outside the racecars. It makes no sense to me. Jimmy has more class and dignity in his little toe than the Busch brothers, Harvick and Stewart et al have collectively in their whole miserable existences.
