Some of the top Engineers that developed the Gen 6 work for the 48. They also developed the last car in 2007. Result is in both cases, the 48 came out way ahead of other teams and dominated the season. no car was even close to the 48 in weekly performance. Dominated at least half of the races. Was so much better than any other car at Daytona that it didn't even need to draft. Parity my behind, the 48 has figured out how to game the system. Every week that car is good enough to win. Winning only six races under the circumstances is not that impressive. Should have been twice that many. I have nothing against Johnson, but what has he ever done in any car other than the 48 with Chad at the helm? I watched him run one nationwide race earlier this year and Kyle Larson ran him lap for lap and beat him. They were battling for about 10th. What did he ever accomplish running that series? Nothing. He is good, but he hit pay dirt getting that ride. Drivers are smart to tell him he is great and say it in public. If I was a driver against him, I would too. But I really doubt any of them believe that he is any better than they are. Winning points series with the best team and car is kind of expected. As far as I am concerned, this year belonged to Matt. He was the best driver in the series this year. OH by the way, when he had a winning car and it didn't get wrecked by Gordon or blow a motor, he won. 7 times.

Great drivers develop great cars. You could put Danica in the 48 and within a couple weeks she would be a backmarker in that car. Driver feedback tells the chief what the car is doing, the chief has to know the car to make the changes needed to go faster. It's that simple. Lousy feedback, lousy car.
Lots of drivers fall into that category. Danica for a start, she doesn't give good feedback so the results stink. She just admitted that going into the last race, not directly, but in so many words. I kind of doubt Jr gives very good feedback, either, considering his results. Better than most, not as good as others.
In every form of racing, the best drivers always seem to be able to create the best environment for themselves to be successful. Its a combination of political savvy, talent and good people skills, not just wheeling the car. If anyone thinks just hitting the throttle, brakes and turning the wheel is all it takes to be a Champion, I would say you're mistaken. Johnson has it all.Comment

That is some more nonsense. Comparing Danica or even bringing her into the conversation. There are 12-15 drivers that would win points races if they had a stellar team that could give them what they need. . So I am to believe the other drivers are not capable of telling there crew chief what they need? have mercy, it has become a joke. I guess Brad was better than Jimmie telling his crew chief what he needed last year. I guess Stewart was better the year before. I guess Gordon was really good in the late nineties, but then forgot how to relay info and drive. Chad knows how to set the car up for every track, he only has to tune it up with feed back. It rolls off the truck ready to win every single week. They are a great team, but Johnson is no better than any of the other top drivers. I have seen him when he doesn't have a dominate car. Matt out performed him this year and won more races. Facts are on the track.Comment

The problem today is the cars are so aero sensitive and dependent on a lot of engineers which translates to money. The teams with the most money or resources now a days will com out on top not like the old days when it was in the drivers hands. I'm not saying jimmy is not good but it would interesting to see how he would have done in the old days.Comment

The competition is so much better now. There are at least 15 cars that can win on a given weekend now. Compared to maybe 5 in the good old days. Different times yes, but in time Johnson will be one of the greatest. Yes money is an issue but Hendricks, Stewert-Haas, Waltrip, Childress, Roush, and Gibbs all have the money and have cars that can win on any given weekend. Johnson and Knaus are great and should be respected.Comment

Competition for wins is more competitive. In fact the 48 amazingly managed to only win 6 of the 17-20 races they dominated. But in points, it is not that competitive since no other team can give their driver winning cars every week. That is where there is a huge difference. That is why they easily win the points racing. You can not out point a team who has great cars every week. As I said, Chad and his team give their driver great cars and their driver does what you would expect with them. No one is going to beat Chad. He has the best in the business at the shop and those cars roll off the truck ready to win. Jimmie takes the car out on the track a few times, Chad makes a few adjustments and it is the car to beat in the race. Every week. It's easy, just show proof that gasbag, tough guy wanna' be harvick has a vastly inferior crew and drives vastly inferior cars. Gasp! It surely couldn't be that he's just not as good as JJ!! Just show the facts, not mere conjecture. Conjecture don't cut it.
Johnson has won 6 Cups in 8 seasons, there's the facts. Downplay it however ya' want but it's a matter of record.
I'm not a Jimmy Johnson fan but it's indisputable that what he's accomplished in his Cup career is very special and he's done it with class, dignity and without running his yap and acting like an a$$hole. In that respect he's very much like The King who also conducted himself with class and dignity.
I would also defer to posts by mudslinger47 and dirtisforracin. They said it as good as it can be said.Comment
