I would be in favor of repealing it, if in fact it was replaced. A lot of it has merit. I think everyone should have to buy insurance. I don't think anyone should be cut or charged more for previous conditions. I don't believe insurance should be paid for by employers. I think premiums should have escrow accounts that grow with time so there is never a lapse in coverage. I think Insurance companies should lose their protected areas and be allowed to sell to anyone in the country. I think insurance companies can be too big to fail and shouldn't be allowed to get that big. I think there should be more insurance companies. Competition is the key to lowering costs.

I don't realistically seeing these things happening, even if they make sense.

I think we may have reached an inflection point and change may be coming and soon. ACA goes against the grain of what most Americans believe in, IMO anyway. I'm not for mandates, but what I would be for is not allowing people to claim bankruptcy to get out of paying bills they should of had insurance for. Something along the lines of how creditors are guaranteed payment in the Student Load Market would work.

The current system is broke because in many states there are only one or two insurance carriers, no competition isn't good for the consumer. With many plans there is no incentive for efficiencies for the user because a third party pays. George Will opined decades ago that health insurance should be more like car insurance. We don't expect that our insurance will pay for gas or tires, but we expect our medical insurance pay for routine doctor visits.

No Bankruptcy? Just a couple questions, does your insurance have a max cap? Most do now days. If you by chance of fate get a tiny brain cancer and ended up in a hospital for 3 months taking $20k of meds a day to stabilize it for surgery. Then have surgery and not know if you will ever be able to work again. This all ran $500k over your cap, should we put you out of your house into the street or maybe debtors prison? You could never pay the debt, your credit would be gone, your way to make a living may be gone. Just how much do you want on your plate?

I've seen a lot of people that didn't know they had crummy insurance until they lost everything because of it. I lost a bunch with good insurance once. If your sick and can't work, you have a lot of trouble keeping a employer based insurance. You and I have a back up with the VA healthcare, but think of the people that don't. Do you really want no bankruptcy that will have no effect on paying that bill? Seems like punishment for being a dumb a$$. Maybe making the dumb buy good insurance would be a better solution. Maybe making insurance companies sell decent insurance that protects dumb a$$es from their self would be a better option. Making everyone pay their own way seems to be a better option. Lack of bankruptcy would not do this. Anyone with enough assets to pay the bill, usually has good insurance.

Most Doctors don't even file the liens if the debtor doesn't have anything. It's just another cost, you have to add to the other patients bills. They may continue billing for a while, turn you into credit reports and finally sell the debt to a collection agency if they can get one to buy it. The other patients still pay the bill.

As far as State insurance commissions go, they are crookeder than a dogs hind leg. I have a friend that started a insurance company. It took seven years and deep pockets to get the first state and another 10 to get another 11 states, and it wasn't health insurance.

Seems to me if people weren't able to walk away from these through bankruptcy, that these issues would be taken care of by the market place and some well placed public service announcements. If you knew it was possible to end up with great debt, you'd be a helluva lot more careful about what it was you bought.

However, I thought it would be best if part of each premium went to a national pool to protect people against health costs no reasonable person or policy could expect.

I see the AMA is fighting with Pharm corps about the price of common Cancer maintenance drugs. It seems they are not affordable with Medicare and supplemental Pharm ins. If you not rich, your going to die deal. Why don't we take their house before they die. What irritates me, is these same drugs are half price in Canada and Europe. And we are supposed to have the best health care? Single payer health care is looking better all the time.

I don't know about Europe, but I do know Canada subsidizes the cost of pharmaceuticals. So the retail price isn't the actual cost. Canadian tax payers foot the rest of the bill.

Probably the same thing going on in Europe.

What they have is a cap price, you can't sell there if you don't sell for their set max price. The very same thing the VA healthcare does. The very same thing Congress wouldn't allow Medicare and Medicaid to do. What these other countries have is people not dieing because they are poor.

Make no mistake, Pharmaceuticals are a good part of why the cost of health care is going up, but why should we worry about that, when we have the ACA that hasn't even taken effect yet, to blame.

It's not a cap, it's a subsidy. The consumer pays part, and one of the provential governments pay the remainder.

It's in print. It must be true. Could you explain why US citizens can buy in Canada cheaper? Are they subsidizing US citizens also? My sister in law was getting anti rejection drugs from a Canadian pharmacy, 90 days at a time, a lot cheaper.

Aspirins are cheaper yet at the Dollar Store. Some drugs cost more than others.

Yes they are. Doesn't make any sense, but they are. Just like we fund illegals here. Makes absolutely no sense, but we still do it.
