Post of the year......actually, post of the last 5 or so years( how long has he been in office now?)Where is the move over flag when you need it????? -
They took the American dream from us long ago. Some want to think it just happened since Obama has been in office but it started long before now. It started with nafta,repeal of the glass steagall act and the Sherman trust act.. Those 3 bills alone have killed the American dream. Jobs left this country at a record pace and then the banks were allowed to rob us blind with no consequences.
with all that income equality happened and the top 1 % has most of the wealth and the poor are poorer and the middle class is left to pick up the pieces for the rich and the poor.
Just add up all the money you have made in your lifetime and then see what you have and ask yourself is this really all I have to show for all the money you have made.
Until we see a overhaul of the tax system and the glass steagall act reinstated and term limits and big money out of politics nothing is going to change as a matter of fact it will only get worse so, one man is not to blame for this but, I know for some of you your master tells you different.Comment

My grandson, for a couple of years, all he's wanted is to play college football...he worked and he worked hard, studies and training...Graduated with a 3.7 GPA and and a four year full boat scholarship to a NIAI University for football.... You think he can't attain his dream? You think he's worried about some Senator or Congresscreep...no, he grabbed the bull by the horns five yrs ago and set a goal and now he's achieved his dream. You're absolutely right Mud, no one can take your dreams and aspirations from you. What they can, and have done, is remove, to a large degee, the possibility of realizing those dreams. If you are an especially gifted athlete or entertainer (I use that term rather loosely) or someone who is born into a cushy situation the dream is still somewhat alive but the percentage of young people who make it in the pros or get rich in the entertainment industry is minuscule. I wouldn't call getting a full ride athletic scholly the manifestation of the American dream. Highly admirable? Yes, but unless you have a successful pro career it's what happens after the school days are over that separates the dream from reality.
The red tape and mandated government regulations along with the financial constrictions of modern day entrepreneurship will choke the life and creativity out of all but the most highly funded capitalistic ventures.
There are certainly exceptions to the rule but those exceptions are becoming more rare by the minute.
Young creative souls might look into the growing, processing, distribution and marketing of pot since it seems inevitable that it's to be legalized in the near future. LOL!Last edited by CIRF; 12-15-2013, 01:32 AM.Comment

This says it all .My company gave me a 50 dollar gift card to Publix. They had to print me out a paycheck stub because they had to report it. It cost my company 80 dollars to give me a 50 dollar gift card need I say anything more !!!!!Comment

that must be the state tax that you live in. the company I work for during the day does this for employees all the time for my 15th year I got $250 gift card no string attached to me or the company. I think it depends on what you define "The American Dream" as. If you think you are going to start a mom and pop business and compete with the big outfits, good luck. If you think you are going to own a nice house, 2 nice cars, vacations every year, well. Chances are that is not going to happen.
Your life in America these days pretty much boils down to working your butt off, if you have a job, and being grateful for whatever you get. Don't expect to have much, because there really isn't much left to be had if you are middle class.
I went to Florida last year and this year, and quite frankly, I was amazed at how sparsely attended the big theme parks were. And even more astonished to see the Disney theme parks had posted record profits! We went in 2001, it was jam packed everywhere, lines 1 1/2 hours to ride a ride, all that. We go the last two years, we wait 15 minutes or less for anything. Attendance way down, profit way up.
Yes, America is realigning into a nation of have and have not. It was something we could definitely see when in Florida where the middle class used to pack the place and now no one has the money to go.Comment
