T.nie you amaze me. Disney parks, how much does it cost to get into those parks? How much does a coke and hotdog cost at disney world. So your telling me that only rich folks visit disney's theme parks? Maybe those middle class folks who work hard and save their money for a trip to disney theme parks. If only the rich were going Disney world would be shut down. You always complain about the riches 1% of the country, what is that 3.4 million folks total. Wonder how many visitors visit disney a year?
I do know that disney is much cheaper then it was 10-20 yrs ago, all the special deals they have now. Also wonder what snowwhite, goofy, and rest of the workers disney world make an hour? Shame on disney Corp making a profit. Should be free to get into, free food, free health care if you get dizzy and throwup due to a riding magic mountain, and all workers make 30 bucks an hour.

Ok, heres the numbers. Disney is the most expensive it has ever been and raised prices across the board by 10% in 2013, Disney posted record profits due to price increases in both resort attendance, park attendance and food prices. The parks in Orlando had about 48 million visitors in 2013, which is a record. 48 million by the way is roughly what, 15% of the US population? Guess what, that is pretty much the wealthier end of the scale in America, with the 85% being the majority of the working class and poor UNABLE to attend Disney.

Figure it out. It's all right there in front of you.

I've been there the last two years, from the Midwest. It's about a $4000 vacation, and we only do the parks one or two days. The rest is flights ($1200) accommodation (Condo on the beach about an hour from Orlando) $1000, Rental car $800, and Disney for another $500-600 for the three of us at $100 per head per day with entry and food in the park. Oh, and this year, we did Discover Cove at close to $300 per person to eat, lounge in the sun and swim with the dolphins. We also bought the photo packages at about $250, so add another $1150 for one day to the tab.

Sounds like any typical working class family vacation, right? If you say yes, you are just kidding yourself and won't admit you have no point and no clue what you are yakking on about. Now you're just arguing for the sake of it, nothing more. If you knew what you were talking about, you wouldn't be disagreeing with nothing but hot air coming out your ears.

Most of my Wife's family live in Daytona Beach and despite going down there to see them relatively often we haven't been to the theme parks over in the Orlando area for quite a while now. Didn't realize attendance was down significantly at those places although it probably shouldn't be too surprising.

Just to add a bit to what t.nie stated, the middle class and working poor will be where the economic discomfort falls. Always has been that way and probably always will. We can debate why that is 'till the cows come home but I don't believe one ideological position is significantly more economically friendly than the other.

As Kidrock stated above, and with which I completely agree, until getting elected/reelected no longer is the foremost priority of every politician things that will help get the nation on the right track will not be job 1.

One thing I did learn though, was attendance was record high this year. Which surprised me, considering how packed the parks were in 2001 when we were there before. However, doing some digging, the parks have significantly increased in size since then, so Disney has expanded the park size which may account for the lack of lines/crowds everywhere we went.

Still, 50 million visitors in a nation of 350 million still seems to indicate it takes some money to go. For most it is a destination vacation, not a camping trip in your own state, so the cost is not only the resort, but all the other costs which are pretty significant, that add up to make it an expensive proposition and probably out of a lot of people's price range.

So what do you expect Disney to do? Between 15-20% of americans went to Central Florida last year. So you seem to believe that most to all of that 15-20% are wealthy. How many of the evil rich dont even go to disney world. They are too busy on looks for ways to screw the working middle class and poor. I would bet Disney has spent big money on studies to make sure that middle class can afford to go to their parks. I guess it should be a right that familys should have a paid trip to Disney world.

Sorry I dont feel for them because they cant take their children to Disney world. The middle class can save the money for a trip to disney if they want too. Maybe Disney should never make a profit. Allow everyone in for free, give them free food while visiting park, and pay their workers 20-30 bucks a hour. Pay for expense to get to central florida.
H3ll I want to visit Europe, I have a good paying job, but guess what. I spend money elsewhere, so I cant afford to go to Eurpoe. I'm fine with it. I could if I stopped some of my dirt track and NHRA racing trips. We all have to make on decision on where and what we spend our money on.
