Fact of the matter is Busch with very limited experience and practice went out and competed against and out performed 95% of a field of drivers that their whole careers have been involved in different forms of open wheel racing.
Was luck involved. Without a doubt but pure talent was just as much of a factor.
Sans JPM can you name any Indy drivers in the field that could pull off a finish in the 600 comparable to what Busch done in Indy??
IMO I think this just busted the door wide open for more drivers from the NASCAR ranks to get quality rides and a chance to run the Indy 500 if they choose to give in a go.

I'm not even going to address the idiocy in posts 29 & 30, it's a waste of time.

The NASCAR guys coming to Indy is nothing new. Bobby & Donny Allison (Donny ran 4th at Indy in 1970, 6th in 1971), Cale Yarborough qualified for 4 Indy 500's and Lee Roy Yarbrough along with Paul Goldsmith and a few others I'm forgetting have all tried their hands at The Greatest Spectacle In Racing. Some of them fared pretty well at Indy, too. In some cases better than buschy.

On the same token several Indy Car guys have given NASCAR a go and won races. AJ Foyt and Mario Andretti won the biggest NASCAR race of them all, The Daytona 500. Jim Hurtubise won a top division NASCAR race as well and I'm sure there are others that I don't remember so none of what buschy did was ground breaking in the least.

Too bad the Indy people didn't show the little video clip of buschy's conversation with Dr. Jerry Punch at Homestead from a couple of years ago to show Indy exactly the kind of guy buschy really is. I'd love to see some NASCAR guys come to Indy Car but a$$wipes like buschy don't really represent the cream of the NASCAR crop. I believe, to some extent, the double deal was a bit of a ploy to attempt to resurrect buschy's image but it'll take more than a 6th at Indy to do that.

I might be compltly wrong but I think HMS has Tony's team doing a lot of the testing for the entire group right now. love him or hate him he's a wheelman above most and can drive just about anything and the last time he looked this bad he won the championship with or without nascars help. something has to be going on for DP and kevin to run so well and tony to sux so bad out of the 8 cars the 14 and the 5 have the worst average compared to ther norm.

I know other nascar driver ran well at indy back in the day but the cars of today are nothing like each other and for kurt to do as well as he did in a one off deal(unlike WM's who had a couple tune up races) he11 AJ and mario won in both series. I wonder if andretti is using Kurt as a source to get the info and conections he needs to get his cup team started? you can bet he has something motivating him to do this deal.$$$$

Most speak broken English? LOLOL!!! Hmmmmm.

There were 11 Americans in the field for the Indy 500 and a several Canadians, British and Australians. All of whom speak better English than you do. Please, for God's sake know what you're talking about.

In regards to Mario, A.J., Hurtubise (Hurtubise won a Cup, or Grand National race at Atlanta) and maybe a few others, they were all three open wheel guys that went over to NASCAR and beat the taxi cab boys at their own game on their own tracks. It's never happened the other way around in reference to The Indy 500, at least not since WWII.

All I'm saying is what buschy did at Indy is nothing new or earth shattering. People are talking like it was some super human feat and it's been done even better by a couple of guys. Donnie Allison just to name one. And, buschy didn't outrun 95% of the starting field, to do that he would have had to run 3rd or better.
