Sparse Crowd At Bristol For The Cup Race

I live 3 hrs from Bristol, and saw a lot of travel trailers and campers headed back about the time the race was about to start. Most of the crowd left figuring there wouldn't be a race. They do advertise tickets for sale on the radio now, when you couldn't get a ticket a few years ago.

A guy I work with and his two sons headed down Friday ,he had said if the weather turned cold he was staying in the hotel and watching on tv. they did get a he11 of a deal on tickets due the lack of seats sold.

Nascar is cutting it's own throat with all the stupid crap like handing out talking point to the drivers,finning drivers for talking bad about the new cars, caution like the one tonight with 2 1/2 laps to go. who wants to pay for a race that is decided by a bull sh it caution.

As I said before, NASCAR killed the goose that laid the golden egg with plenty of help from the hotel's and motel's near the tracks, among others. The rule changes, exorbitant ticket and concession prices, too.

It would have been very interesting to see the number of people in the grandstands if the weather had been sunny and 70 degrees. I would have bet not significantly more, but that is pure speculation.

One would be very hard pressed to find anyone who feels bad for NASCAR and the others who got a little too big for their britches.

Track is better now than it's been since they put in the concrete. They were running 3 wide on numerous occasions today. Before the reconfiguration you would never see 3 wide and a pass on the outside was almost never done.

The race was actually pretty good....Lots of two and three wide racing....can't find any fault with that....but the weather certainly took its toll... I was supposed to go to Ca. Speedway this coming weekend, only three hrs away... maybe not sure yet.....

Mud, I'm just curious as to your thoughts as to how significantly the weather effected the size of the crowd at Bristol this past weekend?

I'm also curious as to which direction you are from California Speedway? I've spent a little time in that neck of the woods over the last 10 years and am relatively familiar with that part of California.

We've attended a NASCAR truck race and an Indy Car race at California and in addition we've attended two Oval Nationals and the 2012 Turkey Night Grand Prix at Perris and once up to Ventura Raceway for opening night in March of 2012. We've been to Ontario and LaVerne, California on numerous occasions on business.

I just took it for granted that you were somewhere in the Midwest.

I'm also curious as to which direction you are from California Speedway? I've spent a little time in that neck of the woods over the last 10 years and am relatively familiar with that part of California.

We've attended a NASCAR truck race and an Indy Car race at California and in addition we've attended two Oval Nationals and the 2012 Turkey Night Grand Prix at Perris and once up to Ventura Raceway for opening night in March of 2012. We've been to Ontario and LaVerne, California on numerous occasions on business.

I live north of LA in Santa Barbara County... Been to Ventura several times but our home track is Santa Maria. We used to race at Perris on occasion, but its a sprint car track and the DLM's never pulled any spectators.... Only truck race I have ever attended in person was at Mesa Marin in Bakersfield many years ago, that track succumbed to housing some years back.. I was born and raised in South Dakota but came out here while in the military and found out what weather was.. our average temp year round is about 70 I couldn't see how I could improve on that, so I stayed here. Been here about 42 years.

It sounds like you made the right decision 40 some years ago. I salute you. When I got out of college I came back home and became involved in our family operation. I would have been terrified to have gone to someplace like Southern California cold turkey.

My older sister's daughters are both in California. One in the LA area and the other up in Marin County. You couldn't get either one of them back here to The Land O' Lincoln & crooked politicians for any amount of money.
