Kyle Larson Out Of His Cup Car At Martinsville, Will He Get A Waiver?

With Kyle Larson not able to compete in the Cup race at Martinsville due to medical problems, will he get the oft used "NASCAR waiver" allowing him to be eligible to win the championship like stewy and buschy have in the recent past?

If this keeps up we'll have about half the drivers intending to run the full schedule with waivers allowing them to miss X (a number that has yet to be determined) number of races.

What a crock of bull$hit if Larson doesn't get a waiver. The waivers are bull$hit in the first place, but if they're gonna do it for buschy, stewy, and whoever else, then give them to everyone.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Kyle Larson will miss today's STP 500 Sprint Cup race at Martinsville Speedway after fainting Saturday.

Regan Smith will fill in for Larson in the Chip Ganassi Racing No. 42 Chevrolet.

After fainting following an autograph signing, Larson was taken to a hospital in Martinsville and later was transferred to Carolina's Medical Center in Charlotte, according to the Associated Press.

He remained there Sunday. Larson is still undergoing tests, but the team said in a release he ''feels completely fine.''

The full statement reads:

"After fainting yesterday at an autograph session in Martinsville, VA, Kyle Larson was first evaluated at a local hospital in Martinsville and ultimately evaluated at a Charlotte hospital. Although all tests came back negative and Larson feels completely fine, the doctors felt he should be held for more testing today. Subsequently, Larson will be unable to race today in the STP 500 in Martinsville. Regan Smith has agreed to fill-in for Larson today in the No. 42 Target Chevrolet SS."

The 22-year-old is considered one of NASCAR's top rising stars.

The 2014 Sprint Cup rookie of the year has two top-10 finishes through the first five races this season. Last year, he missed the Chase for the Sprint Cup playoff by one spot. He has flirted with the winner's circle at NASCAR's premier level on several occasions, with three runner-up finishes and eight top-five finishes in 41 starts.

Larson tweeted just before the green flag flew at Martinsville: "Thanks for everyone's support. Cheering on @ReganSmith in the @Target @CGRTeams @TeamChevy"

He became a father in December, when he and girlfriend Katelyn Sweet welcomed son Owen.

Larson's status for the Chase for the Sprint Cup will not be affected. He qualified seventh on Friday, fulfilling NASCAR's rule that he attempt to compete this weekend.

Teammate Jamie McMurray tweeted his support: ''I hate that @KyleLarsonRacin is not racing today. @TXMotorSpeedway can't come fast enough for him!"

Larson is the third driver to miss a race this season with a medical issue.

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Kyle Busch is sidelined indefinitely after breaking his right leg and left foot in the season opening Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 21. Brian Vickers, who drives for Michael Waltrip Racing, is out while being treated for blood clots. He missed the first two races, returned at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway, then was pulled out of the car last week at Auto Club Speedway.

Smith, who drives full-time for JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series, has been tapped by several teams to fill in on the Cup level. Most recently, he drove for Stewart-Haas Racing the first three races this year as a replacement for Kurt Busch. Smith notched finishes of 16th, 17th and 16th. He also was called upon by SHR last year at Watkins Glen International to fill in for Tony Stewart.

The series is off next weekend for Easter. Sprint Cup returns at Texas Motor Speedway on April 11.

I plead guilty for not reading up on NASCAR anymore which leads to me being grossly uninformed.

It is different now under the old rules you had to take the green flag to be counted and receive the point's for the race.

drano, I was thinking the way you explain it was right but couldn't remember for sure. Since I don't follow NASCAR all that much anymore I missed the part where they changed exactly how points are accumulated.

Do you know when they changed the rule?

No I can't remember when they changed it CIRF but they need to go back to it, just like they need to do away with that stupid lucky dog rule
