Just some of the confederate army. All never recognized as the confederate flag, by the confederate states of America. It's just perceived that way, now. Most used a state flag. There are a lot of myths about the war between the states. One, that it was about slavery. It was about money. More so a excise tax charged to fun the US Navy. This was a burden on southern ag business, who exported more than anyone else. In a way, it really wasn't a un-fair tax. The Navy protected shipping and the ones that shipped paid for that protection. You have to remember, this was right before the industrial revolution here in the states. A few more years and the industrial north, would have been paying the Lyons share of that tax. Actually the US Navy is the only military other than Militia authorized by the Constitution. No Army, Air force and Marines where just a part of the Navy as they still are. I find it interesting how myths become facts.

Slavery was always a issue but not one that caused the war. Lincoln would have conceded any slavery issues to avoid the war and only came out with the Emancipation proclamation a couple years into the war to weaken the south's support network. Take away some of their labor.

It may be southern heritage, but a heritage that most southerners wouldn't want to be a part of. That being said, it's funny how this flag is perceived. To some it's a Duke's good old boy yahoo rebel yell all in good fun and to others it came with a burning cross and the killing of family. Even the Natzi flag had it's supporters. Natzi's didn't mind it, but the Jewish, not so much.

If it was not the Confederate States of America flag and It was not most of the Army battle flag, I would say the KKK had more than a little to do with it's popularity. Most units had a state flag and even had varying uniforms, especially officers. Only later did it get perceived that all flew this flag. But as they say, power perceived is power achieved, so I guess a flag perceived is a flag achieved.

To say the confederate flag wasn't recognized by the confederate states is ludicrous.....it was not only recognized , but flown in many confederate states solo or adjacent to their state flag during that period.

You and I have never seen eye to eye ( primarily due to my disdain for your hypocrisy), but to get on racing site and try and spout off about something that clearly you haven't done all of your homework on( and no, a couple of quick arbitrary google look ups on the confederate flag don't count) just paints a picture of ignorance.

There is too much ignorance on this subject already, you certainly don't need to add to it.

On something as polarizing as this ,it's always best to keep your mouth shut if you don't know what you are talking about......it's not a gloss over, throw in a few witty comments and move on kind of subject.

As for me and my heritage, I was born in Florida, raised mostly in NC , a little time in Georgia and now reside along the coast of SC................I have ancestors and relatives now that had family members that fought in the civil war on both sides........by all accounts of my long deceased great grandmother as a little girl ,it was a terrible ordeal for everyone involved, but please don't think for a second that the confederate flag wasn't embraced by the states of the confederacy and on the battlefield at the time period.

The fact that the kkk adopted the flag and used it's meaning as one of hate, has nothing to do with it's real meaning and initial application other than to say that they somehow equate the fact that the " stars and bars " were flying when white folks owned black folks and looked at them as possessions and not the human beings that we all are.....the kkk wants that era to come back, the white supremists want that era to come back...........well guess what???that sad era ain't coming back (nor should it) and all of the hate and mistrust needs to die along with my great great grandparents and we as human beings in the 21rst century need to let all of that die with them.

Lesson learned, let's move on together......we have a bigger battle to fight now a days, and don't think for a second the the Taliban, Isis, etc groups don't subscribe to the divide and conquer theory.............together we are strong, divided we will fall as Americans.

Personally , I could care less wether the flag flies or not.........I'm an American, I recognize the American flag as my countries proud heritage of the American freedoms that ALL states ( north, south,east and west) have fought for since the inception of and current era of the USA.

I'm a white man, but at the end of the day, I'm just a man.......like you me and everybody else.

Granted , we as a country still have a very long way to go to heal old wounds and to truly be a group of states (UNITED WITH EACH OTHER) and not divided amongst ourselves..........but it's a two way street and currently there are no valid road signs to follow, all we have to go by are our own true feelings and the constant detour signs that get put up by the minority of hate based, race baiting pundits like sharpton, Jackson and hate groups like the kkk.
