I don't know, I kinda like the winner take all deal, the final four and one guy takes it home ....far better then having the championship finished in August ... at least there is something to look forward to... This ain't no cake walk.... one penalty can mess you up and your out on your butt, that starts in about three or so weeks...this brings everyone into the play, crew chief, crew, guys at the shop as well as the driver... everyone played a part before to, but with this format its amplified a bunch, no room for error... I didn't like the format at first, but because I actually watch the racing, I have changed my tune...

Mudslinger, you are exactly right: "This ain't no cake walk.... one penalty can mess you up and your out on your butt, that starts in about three or so weeks...this brings everyone into the play, crew chief, crew, guys at the shop as well as the driver..." DURING THE LAST TEN RACES before that you can miss 10 races, win a fuel mileage race and run 30th every other week, run 15th every week (Ryan Newman), etc. Every team should have the same shot all year long. Where your bad luck falls on the calendar shouldn't matter. If they wanna take some bad luck out of the equation, Kid Rock got it right. Take the best 25 or 30 finishes.

Take a bow Kid Rock and A ron. You guys summed the situation up so well that even the tunnel visioned gimmick apologists might just comprehend it. Whether they'll admit ya'll are spot on or not is another matter.

I would only add that if pee wee wins the championship the scorn and ridicule will be leveled at NASCAR from the sporting press as a whole to the degree that they might possibly get the message and never allow such a travesty to occur again. I'm not sure that is a realistic expectation given NASCAR's track record but, I guess we can hope.

        GO PEE WEE JR.!!

What are you talking about? All the teams have the same shot...that doesn't even make sense....if you want to get technical, Kyle had less of a shot cause he has less races to do what needed to be done....which is why "IF" he does win the championship it will be a bigger deal them anything else in NASCAR for decades past or those to come!!!!

Trust what A-ron says there mister gimmick apologist. A-ron made more sense in one short paragraph than you've been able to muster in this whole thread!! Hehehehe!!

What is most impressive is the fact that NASCAR took a tried and true system of crowning it's Cup championship and a racing series that was the envy of the whole racing world in the 1990's and early 2000's and turned it into a real bad joke. And lost over 50% of it's fan base and put it's TV ratings in the dumpster in the process, as well.

That's what's truly impressive, along with the fact that they've bastardized a system in which it is possible to win the championship of their premier division after competing in 11 less events than everyone else.

And that is exactly why we've become the biggest pee wee jr. and NASCAR fan there is for the rest of this season!!

Are ya' with me mud!!! Hehehehe!!

And that's your opinion and his and your welcome to them, I just disagree..... I happen to like the format, whether Kyle wins it or not..... tired of seeing the championship sewed up in August by JJ.... and now it would appear more chances are available to win...whats wrong with that?

Mud, like I said it did create some excitement the last few weeks but, I just believe in a championship should be all races and not just a handful. The best average finish for 36 races.

Busch has more a shot than someone who gets injured in September. Where they get injured on the calendar shouldn't matter. If you can miss Daytona and win the title someone else should be able to miss homestead and win it. To me it's upsurd that Homestead, a track that is nothing like any other track all year long plays the biggest part. The title should be who ran best overall the entire year. Not who got lucky enough to get through 27.78% unscathed. It's obvious we are wasting or breathe. Brian France is too proud to ever go back to a legitimate system.

Again with the hypotheticals? how bout we stick to "the real deal" you can't miss Homestead, it the final four, if your not there you can't possibly win it can you.. So whats the real problem? Your guy suck and can't make it to the end? The old system was built for strokers out points racing.. this system rewards winning...

That is my problem with the system. There shouldn't be a "final four" this isn't NCAA basketball.

If Nascar really wanted to pump up the championship, here's what they should do.

36 races broken into 6 separate competitions of 6 races each.

Winner of reach race plus the next 20 go to a "Showdown" event, winner take all, no points, just finishing position at a style of track; SS, Speedway or Short Oval.

Showdowns will occur at each type of track twice. One short oval must be a dirt track in any type car sanctioned by Nascar. So all the big boys have to run a dirt race.

In fact, I'd love to see one 6 race series run on dirt in trucks if not the actual Sprint cup cars set up for dirt. That would REALLY pump up interest in the racing community, and the dirt community is a huge and overlooked segment of the NASCAR fan base I think.

Top 15 in each "showdown" advance to a big "showdown" at the end of the season. That is winner take all, no points, you finish in the sprint cup championship where you finish in that final race. Preferably on a short track, but I can see that rotating every year. But a short track big showdown race for he championship with all the top guys all year long in it would be enough to get the majority of racers and pit crews arrested in the pits when its over... lol

All the racing all year long matters because it gets yo to the final. And at the end, you'll have every racer out there in with a chance to win. So it aint points racing, and every race matters, and at the end everyone on the track has earned the right to be there by being good enough to finish near the front in the showdowns all year long.

I am sure there are holes in this idea, but it would certainly make the racing more interesting because everything counts all year long. And can you imagine the animosity, rivalries, controversy, when the majority of these teams and drivers are fighting for something they have to have at every race to win the championship at the end of the season.

TV rating through the roof and we all get back to seeing that NASCAR used to be, instead of this corporate marketing tool.

Edit: Oh yeah, and one more thing..... NASCAR Sprint Cup becomes a "self-policing" racing series on track. The only time NASCAR gets involved is if a driver is deemed to do something that is hazardous to any non-driver at the track. So go ahead and wreck each other, and pay each other back, and go ahead and ram each other under caution. You will all soon learn not to go crying to NASCAR and take care of your own business on the track. And just get NASCAR out of it apart from tech and safety of non-drivers. With this format, you just have too much to lose and getting too stupid with the other guys will just get you fired from your seat anyway by your team. So they will soon calm down.

Okay, now your infatuation with the absurd gimmicks and your motivation for said infatuation is slowly coming into focus.

It appears to be a problem with certain drivers winning too much. The most hated being the driver of the 48. That musta' been a loooooong 5 years! LOL!

Find a way to minimize the influence of driver and team quality by compressing the process into a hand full of races where luck plays a more significant role than superior performance in regards to season long consistency of the team and quality of the drivers on track prowess and the gimmick lovers will be happy.

Actually it was Matt Kenseth that prompted NASCAR to bring forth the scourge known as "the chase" mostly due to whining bandwagon fans that no longer pay any attention to NASCAR.

Your opinion is worth as much as anyone else's, and probably more than mine since you still are in love with NASCAR and I'm only paying attention to it now cause I'm a staunch pee wee fan this season.

But mud, the opinion of 50%+ of the fan base from the early 2000's that have abandoned NASCAR and the reasons for that abandonment cannot be ignored and the beginning of that decline paradoxically coincided with the beginning of the proliferation of the gimmicks. Do ya' at least see the trend?

Also, Mudslinger, if you're such an avid Nascar fan, wouldn't you know that JJ has never sewed up a championship in August. Jeff Gordon sewed up a few in August, and should've sewed up 3 more, no thanks to Brian France. If you truly love racing and are not just one of the few drama feeders Nascar has managed to attract with it's gimmicks, honestly answer this question: If Dale Earnhardt were alive, what do you think he would say about the chase? Would there even be a chase? I think he'd say it was a bunch of silliness.

I used JJ as simple a name, the point is sown up in August, and why would I care what ole Dale would think? He's dead. His viewpoint is pretty much a non issue... and even though Dale Earnhardt and Kyle Busch are remarkable similar, I never really cared for Big E....
