Mopar to ya' buddy!! What a great engine line up. It's a shame those days didn't last much longer. Insurance companies and government pressure on emissions and fuel consumption ruined it for everyone.

I love the old Mopars. The new Challenger Hellcat is impressive, and Chevrolet is doing some nice things with the Camaros. They'll run.

50j, I went to a local drag strip late this past summer and there was a guy there that had just bought a new Challenger Hellcat. It was stock off the showroom floor. He turned an 11.59 and went something like 125 MPH in the 1/4 mile. Some special equipment is needed if your car will go that quick. The racetrack people told him he was done for the day and to not bring it back without the proper safety equipment installed.

The guy with the Hellcat said it would melt the factory installed tires easily at 65 MPH. Now that's some torque!!

These new muscle cars are very fast, stop and handle very good, much better than the muscle cars of the late 1960's and early 1970's but they don't have the charm and coolness of the '60's and '70's factory hot rods!

I agree. I'd rather have an old one. It's nice to see the second muscle car era though too.

I heard this is the last year for the Hemi in the dodge cars and trucks, I'm curious to see what happens after this year.

I'm a younger guy, but have been raised around and appreciate the muscle cars. My personal favorite is the Ford Failrlane/Thunderbolt.

What track turned him away CIRF ? I frequent Byron and Cordova and have wittnessed stock Mercedes Benz turning 160+ runs. I've never seen or heard of anyone being turned away. Not saying your wrong, just a lil puzzled.

Depending on what rules the track is under, if it's nhra. Anything under 11.49 you need a 5 point cage. A hellcat is possible to hit 11.2's in 1/4 mile. You also need metal valve stems for tires for anything under 11.99. Not sure those cars come out with that stock or not. The Mercedes you mention must not run a nhra sanctioned track, or they wouldnt let him pass no more than once. If your car is capable of 150+, ya need a parachute.

Exactly the scenario you laid out zyoung. The guy with the Hellcat made 1 pass and was told not to bring it back until the safety standards had been met.

For some reason I was thinking he ran an 11.59 but I'm probably mistaken by a few tenths.
