While I agree with most of what Paul Harvey has said over the years, one must be totally honest. The YouTube version that you linked, and is going around the internet now, is NOT from 1964, but rather 1996. Paul's "If I were the devil" series did start in 1964, but as an op-ed piece to newspapers, and also on his radio show. He expanded on it through the years, adding sentences as the current news of the day dictated.

It would be nice if he predicted all these things way back in the 60's, but it just isn't so.

You're correct, the version I posted originally aired in 1996. He did do a version of "If I Were The Devil" in 1964 and that original version evolved into the '96 version. There are some similarities but the text of the '96 version deviates quite a bit from the '64 version but the primary theme is still relatively prophetic.

fcg, thanks for pointing out the discrepancy, I should have given due diligence prior to posting and erroneously identifying the 1996 version as the 1964 version.

If I Were the Devil

If I were the Prince of Darkness I would want to engulf the whole earth in darkness.

I'd have a third of its real estate and four-fifths of its population, but I would not be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree.

So I should set about however necessary, to take over the United States.

I would begin with a campaign of whispers.

With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whispers to you as I whispered to Eve, "Do as you please."

To the young I would whisper "The Bible is a myth." I would convince them that "man created God," instead of the other way around. I would confide that "what is bad is good and what is good is square."

In the ears of the young married I would whisper that work is debasing, that c ocktail parties are good for you. I would caution them not to be "extreme" in religion, in patriotism, in moral conduct.

And the old I would teach to pray — to say after me — "Our father which are in Washington."

Then I'd get organized.

I'd educate authors in how to make lurid literature exciting so that anything else would appear dull, uninteresting.

I'd threaten TV with dirtier movies, and vice-versa.

I'd infiltrate unions and urge more loafing, less work. Idle hands usually work for me.

I'd peddle narcotics to whom I could, I'd sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction, I'd tranquilize the rest with pills.

If I were the Devil, I would encourage schools to refine young intellects, but neglect to discipline emotions; let those run wild.

I'd designate an atheist to front for me before the highest courts and I'd get preachers to say, "She's right."

With flattery and promises of power I would get the courts to vote against God and in favor of pornography.

Thus I would evict God from the courthouse, then from the schoolhouse, then from the Houses of Congress.

Then in his own churches I'd substitute psychology for religion and deify science.

If I were Satan I'd make the symbol of Easter an egg

And the symbol of Christmas a bottle.

If I were the Devil I'd take from those who have and give to those who wanted until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious. Then my police state would force everybody back to work.

Then I would separate families, putting children in uniform, women in coal mines and objectors in slave-labor camps.

If I were Satan I'd just keep doing what I'm doing and the whole world go to hell as sure as the Devil.

Believe me, I'm not looking for a pissing match this close to Christmas (LOL) but I'm not sure Donald knows nearly as much as Roosevelt did in regards to how government works and what it takes to efficiently get things done. And I don't believe Roosevelt went out of his way to alienate people like Mr. Trump does.

I'm not completely sold on Trump..........................yet. But on the same token I know for sure we don't need a rapist enabler and a remorseless liar that is so crooked that she can't lay in bed straight as our President, either.

I don't really like the pissing match either, but at least Trump is calling her out for her continuous lies. I'd like to see a little more detailed plan from Trump, to fix our countries' problems.

One thing for sure, I believe it was Jeb Bush that said during the last debate, that anyone on that stage would do a far better job than what we have right now! I'll give a big AMEN, right there!

I wouldn't say I'm completely sold on The Donald either, but we could do a dran site worse then him, and if he ends up falling on his sword before the primary or during it, Ted Cruz is there to pic up the pieces.... Either way, I think were covered..

I will be voting for the Jill Stein the Green party. In a 2 horse race where both horses share the same owner, dose it really matter which horse finishes in 1st? The owner wins either way.

If Trump becomes the nominee of the Republican Party for President I really hope he stays in the category of "can't be bought". We've had way too much of that for way too long.

I know what you mean and its to bad. You have to admit though a viable third party candidate would shake things up and just maybe we could get some things done. The whole problem with American politics is we only have 2 parties. The problems with the republican party is you have a group(s) that are really not republicans but have jumped on their wagon clamming to be republicans. They started with what 15 candidates and still have 12 left.
The party it in disarray now they are trying to figure out how to get rid of Trump. They(Special interest groups) know if he wins their control is over.

All of you so called voters haven't figured it out yet. Nothing is going to change as long as you keep voting for one of these parties. The national debt will keep increasing, we will keep fighting wars we can't afford, keep sending jobs over seas, Health insurance premiums will keep increasing and our wages will keep decreasing. They(Republicans and democrats) always run on social issues( Abortion, Guns, Gay marriage, Jobs, and immigration) and clam if they get elected they will get them changed but in reality they won't change a thing because they are going to use these issues again during the next election cycle. They really never talk about real issues.
