Died with his boots on !

89 year old Marvin Panch was found dead behind the wheel of a car on New Years eve. That's how I would want to go. My 72 year old Grandpa died of a heart aneurism behind the wheel of his Jeep CJ while dragging a fallen apple tree branch out of the yard. Panch was early driver was a NASCAR driver back in the day when it really was racing and not sports entertainment as it is now. He won 17 races and the highlight was winning the 1961 Daytona 500 driving for the legendary Smokey Yunick out of "The Best Dang Garage in Town".

      RIP Marvin Panch.

He won the 1961 Daytona 500 driving year old 1960 Pontiac back when the cars were really dangerous and it took strong men to wheel them for 500 miles and they raced them on Daytona Beach and on dirt tracks. The pioneers of the sport are one by one leaving us and it's a sad process, for sure.

I remember hearing my father talk about Marvin Panch. A name from back when Nascar actually had something to do with racing. RIP
