What a great race the last 30-40 laps. Congrats to all three of the drivers going for the win. All showed tremendous skill IMO

Mainly because of too many drug charges. Also, he never really showed signs of being consistently good outside of dirt late models. I guess he won a race or two while driving an IMCA style dirt modified.Originally posted by Bob Hubbard View PostMaybe this has been asked before but why didnt Bloomer ever make it to Nascar ? Bloomy tried ARCA for a couple of races with limited success. I actually was at Springfield, Illinois for one of his ARCA starts back in the early 1990's and he spun in the first turn of the first lap in front of most of the field. And, we all know how the fiasco at Eldora went in his only NASCAR truck start. To be fair the window of NASCAR opportunity was already boarded up for bloomy by the time he did the truck deal at Eldora.
Not many drivers from the generic dirt late model era have gone to NASCAR and stuck. Jeff Purvis probably had more success than anyone coming out of the dirt late model ranks. Although Jeff won some ARCA and Busch (Infinity) races his Cup success was extremely limited. I'll say this about Purvis, he was the best I ever watched in a generic dirt late model. That includes bloomy, Moyer. If Purvis would have stayed in the dirt lates he'd be as big or bigger legend that either one of the aforementioned drivers.Last edited by CIRF; 05-16-2016, 09:25 AM.

I would have to see bloomy's books for myself before I'll believe that he makes more money per year than say Jeff Gordon did or Earnhardt Jr. or Jimmy Johnson does. The upper echelon NASCAR boys fly around in private jets. I've yet to hear of bloomy jettin' around the country in his own private jet.
The winners share for winning the Daytona 500 alone is around 1.5 million. Split that 50-50 or even 60-40 with the car owner. Last place in the Daytona 500 paid over $260,000.00 for 2015.
That doesn't include memorabilia sales and straight drivers salary.
Now, if he's talking about a mid level truck ride or a lower level Infinity ride I might believe that. But I'd bet a substantial amount of money that Jimmy Johnson or Kyle Busch make a whole bunch more in a year than bloomy.

I may be mistaken and don't remember the year but Bloomers first try at NASCAR was in the All Pro Series and he won in his very first time in an asphalt late model. It is no secret why NASCAR owners shied away from Bloomquist. Big deal everyone make mistakes.....
But other than Jeff Purvis there has been zero drivers from the dirt late model world that has had any measurable success in any of the NASCAR top three series. It is yet to be seen how well Tyler Redd1ck fares in NASCAR beyond the trucks.
Now if you want to talk about successful drivers in NASCAR that came from the dirt track open wheel ranks that's a whole other story....Last edited by ClampedUp; 05-16-2016, 03:14 PM.

I believe you are correct, but that's been nearly 20 years now. In fact, he ran 2 or 3 all pro races and never finished worse than 3rd.Originally posted by ClampedUp View PostI may be mistaken and don't remember the year but Bloomers first try at NASCAR was in the All Pro Series and he won in his very first time in an asphalt late model. I wanna say it was for Bill Davis' Busch team, but not 100% sure. You can bet Bloomer wouldn't even consider a second tier team.
As far as the money part, he won a ton of races (and money) back then in the BWRC #18! He was more dominant then as jd was last year!Turn LEFT, Vote RIGHT!

I believe you're right about bloomy in the All Pro Series. Kyle Larson also won his very first start in a stock car. It was at New Smyrna back in 2012, I think. But Larson didn't have any drug charges and he advanced on to Cup.Originally posted by ClampedUp View PostI may be mistaken and don't remember the year but Bloomers first try at NASCAR was in the All Pro Series and he won in his very first time in an asphalt late model. Bloomy ran an ARCA car 3 times. Once at Michigan (started 15th, finished 34th), once at Springfield, Illinois (started 4th, finished 26th) on the dirt mile and once at Atlanta (started 28th, finished 29th). Not what you'd call stellar stats. Then there was the Chili Bowl and Eldora truck fiasco's. Pretty much embarrassed himself in both of those deals.
ClampedUp, it will be interesting if Rico and Christopher Bell can continue the tradition that Gordon, Stewart, Kahne, Newman and Larson, among others, have built coming from the dirt open wheel ranks. Either one of those guys can wheel a car and either one would be good front men for a sponsor. Unfortunately, that's pretty much what it's all about these days.
No doubt bloomy won a bunch of money in his heyday but nothing even close to what even just an occasional winner in NASCAR Cup racing makes. Let alone a multi time champion.Originally posted by a25rjr View PostI believe you are correct, but that's been nearly 20 years now.
