Oh how I wish I had been there at Indianapolis to witness such a wonderful historic event as was run at the 100th race at the brickyard ! I watched as the laps wound down and from about the 8th lap I kept waiting for a yellow to be thrown for a piece of popcorn or a cigarette butt on the track but it never came. I was so programmed by watching the nascar race manipulation that I couldn't believe that there wasn't going to be at least 3 restarts before the end. Real racing, pure and simple !!!

Tells you right there it must not be that big a deal to win it.... a Rookie cleans out all those "ACE" drivers... I seem to remember an unknown rookie kid (20 years old) by the name of Trevor Bayne winning the gimmick ridden 2011 Daytona 500 which is universally considered NASCAR's biggest race. He made it look relatively easy in the process against all the "icons" of modern day stock car racing.
I also remember Mario Andretti (in only his 5th NASCAR race) and A.J. Foyt come bouncing into Daytona from Indy Car racing and cleaning the clocks of legendary NASCAR drivers such as The King, David and Cale when they were all in their prime in NASCAR'S biggest race. Never has happened the other way around. The closest to get the job done was Donnie Allison, who ran 3rd back in the 1970's. The last to give it a whirl and come up short was Kurt "the nut" Busch who scored a distant 6th without ever leading a lap back in 2014 in a 500 which featured 35 lead changes among 11 different drivers but he wasn't one of them.
The fix was nowhere to be found in Sunday's Greatest Spectacle In Racing. Quite simply it was one of the gutsiest, best conceived strategies ever employed by any team in any form of racing. In a word it was a masterpiece and I am honored to have been witness to it, as well as being overwhelmingly entertained by a GREAT race, as has been the case each of the past 4 500's. Extremely few, if any, of the 350,000+ fans left the most famous racecourse in the world disappointed in the entertainment value they had just received.Comment

no they are like me true race fans and they also go to both Daytona races and they don't think its a gimmick my self I wouldn't walk across the street for either race they both bore me I would take a good short track over either one themComment

The 100th running of the Indy 500 was anything but, boring. Was it a great race no and the only reason it wasn't a better race was because, of the finish. Was it a good race in my opinion yes it was. Don't get me wrong it was great to see an American win the race but, I would rather seen him win it by passing someone on the track and not because of a fuel but, with that being said that's part of racing when a crew chief makes the kind of calls he makes during the race to get his driver in the best position to win.
Indy cars have a package NASCAR desperately needs and that's the ability to draft and pass another driver instead of only being able to pass mainly on restarts or and pit stops. Which don't get me wrong again pit stops are part of the race and if your crew is better then the next crew so be it and you can gain positions then it is what it is. Now don't get me wrong I think the racing NASCAR has been better this year not great but, there has been more passing on the track.
Was the fix in I don't believe so but, it wasn't in the Daytona race where Trevor Bayne won either.Comment

The present package Indy Car employs has been very good since it's inception 4 years ago. It is perfect for Indianapolis as evidenced by Hunter-Reay and Hinch trading the lead almost every lap for the first 45 laps or so. It's possible to pass almost at will even when the cars are very near equal which made the waning laps so exciting.
The battle between Tony Kanaan, Josef Newgarden, and Carlos Muñoz the last 40 laps was nothing less than spectacular and that was due in no small part to the package used by Indy Car over the last several years.
The fuel strategy wasn't at all anti-climactic. Exactly how the strategy itself would play out wasn't evident until there were only 3 or 4 laps to go. Even then it wasn't clear if Rossi was going to make it which made the racing behind him all the more crucial, and believe me, the racing behind Rossi was intense and breathtaking!Comment

That race sure was a BARNBURNER ! It was reminding me of some of the great late model and sprint events where the boys were pulling slide jobs on each other every half lap with all of the lead changes going on !!!Comment
