    Preparing for a Virtual Date

I'm about to have my very first video date with someone I met online, and while we've exchanged messages for a few weeks, I'm worried the conversation might become awkward. I don't want to spend the entire call talking about work or the weather. What kinds of topics have helped you keep a virtual date interesting while also getting to know the other person on a deeper level?

One thing that helped me was moving beyond casual small talk and asking questions that reveal how someone thinks, what they value, and what they're looking for in life. Conversations about favorite experiences, personal goals, family, travel, and future plans usually create a much stronger connection than discussing work or the weather. I also found a great resource on compatibility questions . It offers thoughtful conversation ideas that make virtual dates feel more natural while helping you discover whether you genuinely connect on a deeper level, not just through chemistry.
