The last time it was at Atomic the track prep was nothing short of horrible though. In fact most of the tracks this event has been at have not even done no way near a decent job of track prep, but are sometimes bailed out by a lot of rain. Like Bardstown and Atomic both had one time at each track.

Drivers, owners, and promoters care about what is cheapest for them and the fans get the shaft. But they promote and carry on like all is great.

Talking to a promoter will do you zero good, I found that out several times.

And that tool lost the track within a couple months of that disaster. The guy running it now, so far, I think is a lot better. Hopefully he starts improving bleachers and that, but track wise, pretty good.

I was there is 2011 for the last one at atomic. It locked down in the third heat I believe. But I'm pretty sure it rained Friday and they ran the entire show on Saturday. It was black top to bottom in qualifying. Seems like the DTWC was always plagued with weather. Wasn't a bad race in 2005 when bloomy won it though.
PRP has the potential for a good race but like everyone else said, waaaaaay too many laps on it. I think if they ran the mod show the prior week or the following week they would be better off.

I've been to all the DTWC's at Portsmouth and the only good race was when BShepp beat Bloomer. That was an awesome race. But as others have said the track is locked down before the feature even starts. So whoever starts on the front will win. Unless it comes a downpour early Saturday. I would love to see Atomic get another chance now that they have a great track crew and a great racing surface here lately. I think they are ready for it again. But to a point PRP is as close to Pennsboro racing your going to get without being at Pennsboro. And we can blame Pat Patrick for the race always being threatened by rain. He told Carl Short that the second week in October is always a beautiful weekend, lol.

I have never been to this race. The only view I've had is in DOD highlights. I do have a couple questions. Isn't this the race that adopted the I80 passing point format? Didn't the first race under this format have rave reviews, even though some attributed the passing and good racing to a timely rain shower? But wasn't the next year half way decent? Do I have the right race and track, or am I confused?

I usually make it a point to see reports of three years of good racing after a lock down, to avoid wasting time and money. Am I thinking about a different track and race?

2015 was the first time with the i80 format .

North/South 100 is into year 3 of the format, I believe.

Yes it had pretty good reviews. Rain is the only thing that helps that place on multi day shows.

I am another who wish it would have stayed in Lawrenceburg. That would have been a great home for it.

They would just blow it again. That place would go one lane every time. They don't cut the track anymore and the only place to run is against the cushion. Lucas race in August was a good example of the racing you would get.
