Let me try one time to explain this so as to hopefully penetrate even your narrow mind. Smart ass remarks notwithstanding. It was said earlier that the whole town of Fairbury is supportive and joyous with the existence of the racetrack. It was further pointed out that there surely are people who don't particularly like it and another statement was made that if the track was there first then those that live within earshot have no gripe. And they don't. I simply pointed out an actual case or two where there are families that have been there since before the track was operating which renders the previous generalization as being inaccurate.Originally posted by bullring View PostIf somebody wants to live by a racetrack for 70 plus years and be annoyed every Saturday night every summer, I really cant feel much sympathy for them. After 40 or 50 years of misery, I would move.
These good people are not annoyed per se, they merely have to be aware of periodic inconveniences due to noise and dust. These are homes that have been in the respective families for 2 generations, maybe more. They know what is coming every summer and they plan accordingly, seemingly without complaint. They are reasonable people.
Not everyone is as enamored with dirt track racing as those of us who post here. In fact there are a lot more of those that aren't overly enamored than are. The pure and simple facts are that we belong to a very small minority. That's why many tracks get shut down because of unhappy neighbors. Those are the facts and it isn't what any of us like, just the way it is.
These folks definitely don't need or want your sympathy. In fact they are relatively well to do and could raise plenty of hell and the right people would listen but they have no desire to do so and all indications are that they won't ever.

Thanks ptown. The widespread affliction of not knowing what one is talking about and being too stupid to know it has claimed yet another victim. It's the disorder of a vicious circle of ignorance that is nearly impossible to curtail and there is no known cure. LOL!!Originally posted by ptown View PostMaybe I can help, some really dislike the track but they deal with it.

I always say that racetrack was there way before you moved in that house. Don't like it then move. That track brings money to the town and isn't leaving.Originally posted by CIRF View PostYou're correct ptown. I went to school with 2 guys that married girls from Fairbury and have met the wives families on several occasions and they are much less than joyous about Saturday nights in the Summertime.
Indeed, not everyone who calls Fairbury home is 100% behind the speedway. However, as entrenched as the speedway is in the local Fairbury culture the dissenting population is not vocal, but it's there.

If you read on I explain that the track actually wasn't there before the houses and the people who live in them.Originally posted by JMill99m View PostI always say that racetrack was there way before you moved in that house. Exactly the feelings of the people that I'm friends with. They don't hate the track, it's merely an inconvenience on some weekends. They too understand it's significance to the community and would never wish racing to cease to exist.Originally posted by cdustyr1 View Postactually my best friends lives a block away from me and we have grown up together for 30 plus years and he hates the race track but he is fully aware of the revenue it generates. They just go out of town a lot on summer weekends.
