I'll take a stab at this one. Feger & Moyer were at Plymouth last monday & Oshkosh on tues. Moyer was also at Shawano wed. Then they went to Cedar Lake for Thur-Saturday. Moyer actually pulled out of CL a few minutes ahead of us on Sun morning. Babb was also at CL.

B-Shepp, Erb, & Heckenast raced Tuesday thru Saturday as well.

So...5 nights of racing with basically zero time to give the cars a good once over and take a break, both drivers and crew, before the N/S.

The full-time touring guys race just about every weekend between Feb - Oct, so at some point they have to say no. Unfortunately, these two races in IA were the no vote.

Diesel from CL to Iowa, plus entry fees, plus tires, plus $20/lap to run the car for hot laps, qualifying, heat race and 50 lap feature. Minimum, that's a 3k investment with no tow money.

Weaver, Opie and Unzicker haven't ventured much from IL this year. If you were one of those guys would you shell out 3k to possibly win 10k knowing Bloomer, Clanton, Marlar, Simpsons, etc were there. That's a big expense to put up knowing you have a better chance of heading home with $600.

I completely get the frustration, but financially these teams/drivers simply can't afford to race them all.

You hit that pretty square. This race is at the mercy of Cedar Lake and Florence.

While I love these summer months of racing almost every darn night. I think it's getting to be too much. The trend is heading to where guys are gonna race when they are ready and pick there battles wisely.

Someone suggested they throw this race in between the SDN and the PDC. I'd say throw it in right before the SDN and try to get WoO/Lucas to sanction it. WoO guys will be in the area coming off the Midwest swing, you could grab a couple on there way home. Lucas guys will already be in the area. I know they raced at Brown County but that seemed like a pretty big haul on a short turnaround. Who knows if they'll keep having that race.

my last call:

simmons tried to pull this off with mixed success. considering i'm originally from the opposite corner of the state, take note of how much respect I have for the eastern iowa late model history and that fan base. the lm hof is filling up with racers, owners, and promoters from that area that I always longed to see while following along in my weekly Hawkeye Racing News.

I know times have changed since then. for better or worse is certainly open for debate. and credit given to the new ownership for trying to entice the best open late models to a fan base that has always been extremely loyal. but given the lack of open lm racing in the area, and thus a lack of local competitors, it's going to be difficult to carve out a date that works with overloaded schedules.

tip of the cap to joe kosiski and team at I-80 for what they've created with the silver dollar nationals. don't know there are similar opportunities on the racing calendar.

Every WOO or LOLM race you have seen, someone has been paid to show up. The sanctioning group takes the money and gives it to their drivers for show up money. Did you think the sanctioning group supplies big named cars for nothing?

That may be true, but this wasn't a WoO or LOLMS event. So who knows if anyone was paid to show up. The big Modified show past year the weekend of the World, Bloomquist was paid to show up. $10k-$20k I believe

It was a CBC event, so we know they got paid.
