Lucas Oil/DTWC Dropping the Ball

If the promoter really wants to make sure they get as much money as possible, they should move the race to a track that can seat more than 4,000 fans...and also offer some PPV...time to move the DTWC.

If you remember, there was a thread a while back about ppvs. Dustin Jarrett responded by saying the ppvs sold usually equaled the same in attendance. With that being said, why would a track that has that small of seating, refuse to sell ppvs!

I don't know the % a track would get, but it sure seems like the tracks are leaving a fair amount of money on the table!

We have a winner. Tsand. If the promotor doesn't want it then guess what. No PPV, TAPE DELAY NO FEEDS. This race has a huge purse, they want every dime they can get coming thru the gates, concessions and the various other forms of intake.

I see your point. But wouldnt he get some of the ppv money and royalties if it has repeats?

Carl Short promotes the race, he has nothing to do with the prp race track other this race. Moving the race to another location will not change that. If Carl doesn't it want it to be shown, it won't be shown on tv no matter where it's held. What it would take is for Forrest Lucas himself to put his foot down and say it needs to be shown or else. Which even then may not help that cause, WRG has no tv coverage, so he would most likely just go with them for support.


Prp has held several tv races over the years, including last year's dtwc. Tim Coleman is not the problem here, IF this is the case.

I myself feel VERY strongly that PPV, Lucas oil TV, camers'a in the stands are hurting racing more than anyone can guess. I personally know of MANY people that sit at home saturday night's because they know they can watch whatever tommorrow free.....

If you’re doing your job as a track promoter (start on time, clean facilities, reasonable food prices, efficient nightly schedule, etc) race fans are going to show up. I’ll concede there could be a small number of fans who you lose, but it isn’t a substantial amount that will make or break your night.

Tracks offering different consumption methods in the future will be standard operating procedure. As the technology gets cheaper to offer it, more and more tracks will offer it.

The time it takes to run a show is a much bigger problem. The days of fans sitting in the grandstands for 4-6 hours for a show is over. Society in general just doesn’t have patience anymore.

Late models on tv = more money for the sport and more exposure to fans, especially young fans.

It's hard for some people that follow, to watch a big race such as this one or the World/Dream, World Finals etc hundreds of miles if not thousands a miles away that can't travel to the facility, physically or financially. I think you'd be surprised how many people in the military watch from overseas. Not just just the national stuff but local stuff as well. Whether it's being live streamed or next day posted somewhere or on YouTube

We obviously live in a different world now. First off, are big races still drawing capacity crowds or at least as big of crowds as 15/20 years ago? I only know about Florence N/S. They draw capacity crowds. I am pretty sure Portsmouth does too. PPV is obviously negotiated and there in lies the problem from what I have heard. It is a shame if there is no PPV

I have a hard time believing that every ppv equals a lost person from the stands. I only order for races that I really want to go to but can't, because of travel or time restraints. Now If I couldn't go to that race, any ppv is a bonus dollar for the track. If the race is close, I'm not going the ppv way, just because they are no where near the quality of being there. But if it was close to being a ppv lost one attendance, the track would be taking a beating for every one sold, because they would be losing a whole ticket and getting only a percentage of one.

In reality, ppv looks to be the way of the future. It popularizes the sport from exposure and bridges the gap to fully sponsored races. I believe the ppv productions that do it well, could have the ground floor of a very lucrative sponsored production business. Places like Knoxville realized long ago that ppv or even free media was cheap advertisement. This built the fan base. Why do you think there where such big bidding wars for NASCAR?

That's BS. The stands are packed at every race I have purchased on PPV or watched on Lucas Oil TV

Every big race I attend is packed! DLM racing doesn't have any attendance issues lol.

It looks like if it's going to be a TV race for MavTV, it also has to be live online. For the last several years, the North/South 100 was always recorded for MavTV. It was not this year. Probably the same applies to the DTWC. My guess if the promoter is pitched the idea of it being on MavTV but it also has to be live on Lucas Oil TV, some promoters are passing.

Missed opportunity. The NS 100 and the DTWC were some of their best races of this season! Every time I see a race on Mav TV its from East Bay, or Wheatland... and after the 10th times its been replayed its not worth watching... Need to provide NEW material to lure fans in...
