The big block mods up in the NE have used that system I believe for years. If you've never been to one of there races it should be on anyone's bucket list.

If you want it to be a professional sport you can't handicap the cars. Time trials and straight up starts is how it should be. What other professional sport is handicapped ? The pill draw passing points heats creates some heats that are much stronger than others. Time trials puts an even amount of fast cars in each heat. Guys who work hard in the shop and testing should be rewarded with good starting spots. It's only because 10 internet clowns crying that these absurd formats were ever dreamed up.

Ever watched a guy qualify up front and race his way to the back? Ever watched Erb qualify last every race? Not to mention the fact that the appeal of this sport might be the fact it isn't corporate drones in pressed suits.

What says more about how fast a guy races? 2 laps with a clear track or 22 race laps? I don't see a handicap at all.

The reason Racing is headed down is it is like the NFL!!!!! After you make it to the “big time” you feel you deserve an easier path????? College players play every down hard because they are trying to “make it” thus plenty of fans!!!! NFL we all know is crap!!! Make racers race!!!!! Fans will support racing. Look at the beginner classes ???? They race and rac hard every lap. Make the top do the same. Draw, run heats, and race!!!!! Leave the stop watch to NASCAR pit stops!!!! Best race I seen all year long as at Highland Illinois. They drew,heats,and raced. Being from the “entitled “ south where we ride around in a parade and call it Racing, I was amazed to see passing,this earned that little place a fan!!!

The only handicap I see in passing points is, it gives a big advantage to the real racer and can pass, not the guy that times well and makes his car wide enough to hold off anyone in the A main.

Lol guys working hard in the shop is wayyy different than in the old days the smell of grinding and welding...now days its the sound of boxes opening and bolting new parts on...id rather it not be a professional sport...but the qualifying thing the double heats make you RACE...not just hammer down on a heavy track for one lap what does that prove...

We don't want it to be a professional sport. It's a hobby for the racers and a form of entertainment for the fans. Freight train qualifying formats aren't entertaining. And the fact that RACERS drove up the costs of racing themselves by trying to make it a professional sport isn't the fans' fault so they should not be subjected to terrible formats that do not create the opportunity for drivers to showcase their RACING abilities.

Are the teams forgetting the fans role here? I like the "best starts in the back" format. Line the feature up by points by appearance. The points leader should start in the least advantaged position at all times.

KWD... there is an answer to that... draw a pill to see what quailfying spot starts on the pole... put last weeks feature winner and/or fast qualifier at the tail... top guys in points at the tail... lots of ways to make sure that 'stroking' won't help you.

This deal where a certain heat winner gets the front row sucks... seen so many races where the guy on the pole wins the heat and the a-main. That's not good racing or good entertainment.

Passing points? Isn't that why the drivers are out there...to pass? Kinda like 'participation trophies'...

It's not our fault that the RACERS drove the costs up that high! They can go back to towing with Suburbans and open trailers for all I care. We should not have to watch crappy formats and crappy racing because the drivers decided they want to spend a fortune on racing. The fans absolutely cannot be blamed for rising costs. That is purely on the drivers. At this point I'm all for reeling the body rules back in to slow the cars down. It would make the racing better and cost the racers less. There should not be aero push in dirt late model racing.
