While I’m with ya on wages being crazy in all sports, most of their careers are much shorter than ours. So I really can’t fault any sports person from making as much as they can as quick as they can. Spine injuries, concussions, ACL, MCL, things those of us in the regular work force rarely have happen, are regular occurrences for them.

I’m mean he!!, if I could get a million a year operating equipment, I’d do it. So I can’t really fault them.

Kyle will climb in a sprint car every chance he gets. At his age he could stick around for another 10 yrs and still be able to be competitive in a open wheel car. Could it be sooner ? Would not surprise me at all...
Junior got out because of wanting a family and I think the concussion scared the sh!t out of him.

Stewart, as much as I dislike him, his heart just wasn’t in NASCAR anymore, so I agree with ya on Tony.

CnBF, I agree with you 100% on the injury aspects, although the odds may be somewhat more in favor of being mortally injured in most forms of professional motorsports than in stick and ball sports. I also agree that anyone should get what the market will bear. If someone was stupid enough to pay me $20 mil a year to do what I do I'd grab it in a second.

It's a cultural thing that salaries are so askew. That's where my disenchantment comes in. I really don't wish to wax philosophical, but the people who do the least to better society through their profession make the most money. Sports figures, entertainment personalities, etc. Hell, even a POS like Calvin Cordozar Broadus, Jr., AKA Snoop Dogg is worth $135 mil. I never have fully figured out what that clown does to warrant that amount of money. Thus, I have trouble figuring out how the hell that can happen until I go to chitcago and look around a little and it becomes abundantly clear. LOL!

There was a day that a guy that road around in 25th position all year made way more than he ever should have. I'm kinda' glad to see that swinging the other way. 20 years ago a middle of the road, mediocre driver was nailing down a lot more than he ever should have simply due to bloated sponsor budgets for middle of the road teams. All that said, things are going to have to change a bunch more before it's possible to clear more money racing on the dirt than in NASCAR Cup. A lot of that has to do with sponsorship value and TV which hikes the average payout per race.
It has the opposite effect. Teams aren’t running on a smaller budget be ause they want to. The TV viewership has dropped aling with the sponsorship money. Guys that had multi-year sponsorships with one primary now have to scrape together a hodge-podge of spinsors to fill out a schedule. I think the cars no longer being familiar week-to-week is part of the drop in casual fans. It also means that only drivers that can bring big money sponsors can land a ride. That’s what keeps Paul Menard running and what kept Danica goung for so long. NASCAR is a sport for rich guys. Unfortunately dirt racing has become that as well in many ways.

Smartest move NASCAR could make to get more fans to watch is shorten all those 1.5 tracks to .75 tracks with some also 1 mile or .5 mile. Those cookie cutter tracks (1.5) is the most boring racing to watch, in a matter of a few laps someone will have a 4-6 second lead or longer. First off the there are barely any cautions and second barely any side by side racing, if a driver makes a pass he seems to be long gone. It's like watching 4 hours of straight time trials .

TBSF, the other thing they could do to increase interest in Cup racing would be to run a couple of races on dirt. Let's say they schedule one at The Springfield Mile and another at Knoxville and make one of them a part of the Chase gimmick.

As much as we all say we can't stand to watch NASCAR anymore, I'd bet every last one of us would watch both of the aforementioned Cup dirt races with great interest. I know I would just to see who are the men and who are the boys!

While I’m not a rap music fan, I do gather how Snoop has stayed successful. He didn’t blow it all when younger, stayed relevant in terms of the music game, and has figured out how to market himself to all races. Not sure on the POS part, he likes to toke up and has never stated otherwise. He was running a little league football deal I believe in or near LA I think I seen at one time.

Cannot add to my own post. Wonderful 4m, and has nothing to do with double clicking, it’s just fuked up, has been for awhile.

Their wages are outta control because of the will of owners to win, and be the best. And in turn hopefully make more cash and become more famous/rich. And to be honest, I live a half an hour from Ohio State, and their tickets are crazy expensive. Been a long time since I seen any professional sports games. But to pay around the same prices and deal with the same a$$holes at a Buckeyes game, I was surprised at the price. And I’ll go sometime, but just dang. My oldest wants to go to OSU, so I’m sure I’ll go there some. I work there a decent amount now for my company. Just don’t attend events there.

Larson gives the impression he races for the love of it as much as the money and prestige, refreshing.

I couldn't make it through the entire post, so if this was pointed out before just pass through.

But the Jayski article was written off of his Open Red Podcast interview; the official World of Outlaws Sprint Car podcast. It is well worth a full listen.

Kyle did say that he will run the Outlaws full time after he is done with Cup. That could come in as little as 10 years per Kyle. As he said he is 25 now and in ten years would be 35 and then could spend as long as 15 years on tour with WoO.

He absolutely did say that NASCAR was a stepping stone to WoO. I think we all know Kyle could have made a living as a WoO driver without ever touching a stock car; but going via NASCAR has allowed him to have his own team, travel more comfortable, and guarantee some of the best resources. It's opened the door for him to do it his way.

                      He even said that he has thought about leaving as soon as his current contract is up; but wants to make more money. {And thought it was never mentioned I am convinced he wants one of those Cups before he goes back to dirt full time.}

In the same interview Kyle says that the car he most wants to drive and race that he hasn't so far is a dirt late model. But right now he is really wanting to race the Sprint Car more.

When the day comes I can't wait to see Larson in a Late Model somewhere.

cnbf, I use Calvin Broadus Jr. (I refuse to refer to the clown as snoopy, LOL) as an example because he's one of these guys that anointed himself with a catchy nickname, somehow parlayed extremely limited musical talent into a something that in some weird way appealed to enough people to make himself rich. Now, I begrudge him not one penny because there are scores of others who have done the same with probably less talen and the pot thing is inconsequential to me and is just another marketing sham. Kim Kardashian immediately comes to mind as another who has done nothing and is hideously rich and overpaid. These people contribute nothing positive to society and in most cases they hate everything that exemplifies what is known as flyover country.

What I'm saying is when a POS like Broadus can amass over 100 million for doing little or nothing that contains any societal worth and at the same time we have brave first responder's barely scraping by in some instances there is something seriously out of whack. But I think we all knew that to begin with.

I refer to Broadus as a POS because of his uber militant anti American stance which includes advocating the murder of police and assassination of the current President.

I listened to the Open Red podcast. What I gathered from the conversation is that Larson wanted NASCAR to make him rich enough that he could afford to do what he really enjoys. I'm thinking that is the goal of most of us but only a very select few are ever in position to achieve such an ambition. Lucky for Larson, he's one of those select few. NASCAR will make it possible for him to not have to worry about whether or not he makes a living driving winged sprint cars. I guess in that context NASCAR could be considered a stepping stone.

As far as Larson driving a late model, we'd all love to see that. But if he waits until he's done with NASCAR and gets the WoO thing out of his system DLM's might be just a fun thing to do similar to how Kenny Schrader treats modified's these days. I believe if Larson waits until he in his mid to late 40's to try his hand at DLM's he will be far enough past his prime that I don't see it being anymore than entertainment for him. But then again I'm merely speculating and easily could be wrong.

Cirf you are letting your political views obscure your vision. If you dont like a guy for a certain reason thats fine but comparing Snoop to Kim K? Snoop has been at or near the top of his music genre for 20+ years and created a youth football league for inner city kids, paid for their equipment and I would venture to say changed some kids life for the better since some of them went on to play in the nfl...so to say hes talentless and done nothing to contribute to sociey is completely false...

False! False you say?! That's a reach if there ever was one.

On top of his music genre'? How tough is that? What is it that qualifies as societal importance has ol' Cal produced. Is it the promotion of all the wonderful thug culture and degradation of women. Ahhh, but it rhymes! LOLOL!!

The clown has been in and out of prison a half dozen times, has a rap sheet 10 miles long. Has been banned from a half dozen countries and basically got away with murder with ol' Johnny Cochran as his legal counsel. Is anyone finding a smidgen of socially redeemable qualities in this clown?

Does all that inner city philanthropy negate ol' Calvin's calls for dead cops? Is it political to be repulsed by some repugnant no talent clown? I don't think so.
