Schlenk to run for WoO rookie of the year

RSR post from Facebook:RSR would like to formally announce that Rusty will be running for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series “Rookie of the Year” for 2018. The dotted line on the contract has been signed and the throttle foot is ready to stomp. The two time, and current, UMP National Champion has been wanting to run a national touring series for a few years now and the stars have finally aligned to make that happen. Rusty will be piloting the CJ1 Rayburn by RSR owned by Tyler Bork. The two have had great success as a team since joining up in 2017 and look to continue down that path.RSR will be kicking off the 2018 campaign on February 9th and 10th at the Screven Motorsports Complex in Sylvania, Georgia for the Winter Freeze VII. so is he running a swing arm, which is illegal per WRG rules, or is he switching it to a 4 link?

Good to see him start out the year on a tour. WoO is definitely going to be more contested this year.

It may be WoO rules that don’t allow a swingarm, not UMP. And I don’t see why you wouldn’t allow both, unless they thought it was a slippery slope.

The rumley rules from 2016 just say must be 4 link. They dont outlaw swing arm from everything ive read as technically its still 4 links. suspension points must be fixed and minimum of 8 inches apart. no declaration on where springs are mounted. shock placement doesnt say anything about not being able to mount in a swing arm format. Hell the rules even allow leaf springs. I think the WoO would be excited to have someone using another suspension that still fits in that rule box.

It says the links all have to go forward. Lucas made swing arm provisions. WRG did not.

1)Rear suspension configuration used on current and new chassis(s)
must be the design commonly known as four (4) link. Older cars
currently competing with other rear suspension designs will be
allowed to compete until further notification at the discretion of the
Series Director.

2)Attaching (radius) rods must mount directly to the frame suspension mount at the forward end and to the axle-housing mount at the rearward end.

3)Two (2) shocks will be permitted at the left rear wheel. When using only one (1) shock at the left rear wheel, the shock must be mounted behind the rear axle tube. When two (2) shocks are used at the left rear wheel, one (1) shock must be mounted behind the rear axle tube and the second shock must be mounted on top of or forward of the rear axle tube.

Swing arm violates all three rules. New CJ swing arm violates the first 2.

Any and all new designs or modifications to an existing suspension and/or suspension component must be communicated to and approved by the Series Director before being used in competition.
I copied and pasted that straight from the WoO "2017" rule book. Just a question MBracer. Couldn't anyone running a swingarm suspension go to the series director for approval. I mean it says "the rules can't be absolute". I'm not saying its approved but the way I read that the series director could approve it.

Sure, it says it could be approved. Where is the tech bulletin about it? I heard some folks submitted some stuff to Lucas in 2016 and never got a response. It doesn't matter to me either way. I find it humorous.

We submitted a suspension to Lucas: (IE a fake one that was a basic 4 link with minor changes that was just outside the rules as written). We did this to see what the response would be and how long it would take and how confidentiality could be handled. I got a reply in about 2 days saying it would be reviewed and would get an answer in a few days. I never got a follow up or got an answer of any kind. The initial response on it being reviewed was a basic form letter and basically just said it was under review but when I asked questions on confidentiality and several others on how the process worked, I got no reply.
