give it a few races, and provisionals won't be too big an issue.
The last 2 Lucas Oil races that I've been to only had 22 or 23 cars show up.
These were middle of the season races too. Not early season when everyone's stuff is fresh.

I think at Tazewell last May they only ran 3 heats. I was gonna say 1 B Main, but they may not have even ran a B main that night.

Here are the Lucas rules regarding provisionals. I believe the WoO rules are much more lenient because they often had 4 or more provisionals when the Lucas boys showed up or they were in areas with a strong regional contingent.

In 2016 when Colton Flinner won ROY, he needed a provisional virtually every night and I believe he ran out of emergency provisionals at one point. Last year there were very few times that emergency provisionals were used.

A.) A maximum of two (2) provisional starters will be allowed in any A-main. Provisional starters will be the two (2) highest points scorers from the points standings who are in good standing attendance throughout the 2018 season and not qualified for the A-Main.

B.) Any driver can use up to three (3) provisionals consecutively.

C.) All Drivers will begin the 2018 season with eight (8) provisionals. A driver will earn one (1) additional provisional start after every eight (8) attended races.

D.) For the first five (5) points events of the 2018 season, the provisional starters will be determined from the final 2017 points standings, provided the driver has perfect attendance in 2018.

E.) Car owners who owned a race car with perfect attendance during the 2017 season and have replaced the driver for the 2018 season will be eligible for provisional starting spots during the 2018 season.

i.) For the first five (5) points events of the 2018 season, the provisional starters will determined from the final 2017 Points standings, provided the driver has perfect attendance in 2018. After all eligible drivers have qualified for a starting position in the feature, the highest finishing car owner from the 2017 season, who replaced his driver for the 2018 season will be eligible to take the next available provisional.

ii.) Car owner provisionals will only apply for the first five (5) points events of the 2018 season.

F.) The series will revert back to a fast time provisional starter after the perfect attendance drivers and/or car owners have qualified for the feature.

G.) Drivers who fail to arrive at the racetrack before the drivers meeting will be ineligible for a provisional
starting spot for the night’s A-Main.

i.) Drivers are allowed one (1) unexcused tardiness and still receive a provisional.
ii.) Drivers who are late and present documentation of a hardship can appeal for an excused tardiness, if the top twelve (12) drivers in series points vote the excuse is worthy.

        6.2 Emergency Provisional Starters

A.) A maximum of two (2) emergency provisional starters will be allowed in any A-Main, starting after the
qualified field. Emergency provisional starter will be the highest points scorer from the points standings
who are in good standing with attendance throughout the 2018 season and not qualified for the A-Main.

B.) Once a perfect attendance driver has used his two (2) emergency provisionals he can be granted
additional provisionals as long as all other perfect attendance drivers are in the field. If a driver chooses
to use an emergency provisional he/she will receive points for the feature finish but will only be awarded
payoff for the difference of start money and their feature finish.

          Again from the Lucas Rulebook....

          8.1 Earning Points
A.) Every driver receives fifty (50) “participant points”, as long as they pay an entry fee and compete in (at least) Time Trials, Heat Race, or a B-Main.

B.) Overall Fast Qualifier will receive ten (10) points for setting fast time per an event in both Groups A and B.

C.) B-main Points will be awarded as follows to B-main non-transfers:

Points run from 70 for 1st to 30 for 9th. Everyone else gets 25.

D.) To receive B-main points, driver must start B-main event.

E.) Points and/or Fast Time Provisional transfers receive only feature points.

F.) Promoter’s Option does not receive A-main points and will be awarded B-main points based on
          B-main finish.

Points for the A-Main - 1st place gets 200 down to 20th place which gets 80 pts. All other A-Main starters get 75.

          8.2 Hardship Points
A.) Hardship points (75 points) can be earned and continues a driver’s perfect attendance in the event of a hardship. The hardship points are only available for those drivers with perfect attendance. The peers of the driver who have perfect attendance by a closed vote award hardship points. The series will not vote unless a tie breaker is needed. This will be handled by the series contacting the perfect attendance drivers to vote on the hardship. If a driver races at an event during this hardship event the driver will forfeit all hardship points. If a driver who receives hardship points decides to drop from the series he will forfeit his hardship points.

The year Steve Francis was out because he got hit in the face with mud/debris, he was awarded hardship points. I don't recall anyone getting hardship points recently...maybe Landers when he got hurt.

WoO has a much different system from Lucas. I'm too lazy to look it up, but it should be in their rulebook and you can probably find it on their site.

For Lucas, not making the A-Main doesn't destroy a guy points wise since finishing 20th isn't much different from failing to make the show since almost everyone gets at least 75 points. However, as someone else stated, if you need a provisional to get in the A-Main, you only earn what you make over start money, so that stings a bit and using a provisional to get in the show results in a pretty steep cash penalty.

I think Flinner was eligible for a provisional every night because he had perfect attendance.

Either Landers or Francis were the last ones to get hardship points. Can't remember who's incident came first.

The reason Flinner needed Emergency Provisionals was because drivers are only allowed to use 3 provisionals in a row. I don't believe he ever missed a race due to lack of having some sort of provisional at his disposal, but I'm pretty sure it got close once during the end of the season.

Here are the provisional rules for WoO....

                    A. If provisionals are permitted in the Feature event; the car(s) will earn full WoO points.

                    B. Provisional positions awarded in the first three races of the 2018 World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Season will be based off the 2017 final championship point standings. The 4th, 5th and the 6th race of the 2018 season will have one (1) provisional from the current 2018 World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series championship standings and one (1) provisional from the 2017 World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series championship standings. Beginning with the 7th race of the 2018 season, the provisional positions awarded will be based on the current 2018 World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series championship standings.

                    C. The Platinum/Gold Member car owner and driver who are the highest placed in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series Championship standings upon entering the event and not qualifying for the feature event through normal qualifying procedures, including time trials, the qualifying races and any other qualifying races including ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, etc.…-mains, will receive the two-available provisional starting positions. If there is a tie in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series Championship standings upon entering the event, then the tie will be broken by the results of time trials, with the car posting the faster lap time being awarded the provisional. Car owners and drivers must have perfect attendance to be eligible for a provisional. If all full-time car owners are qualified for the event, then the owner provisional will be awarded to the highest fulltime driver in the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series Championship standings that has failed to qualify for the event.

                    D. All Teams wanting to take a provisional must have attempted to compete in at least one preliminary event leading up to the Feature.

                    E. Any provisional starters will fall in line at the rear of the Feature.

                    F. Only two World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series Championship Point Standing provisional positions will be permitted for each Event’s Feature. A maximum of six emergency provisional starters will be permitted for each Event’s Feature. Emergency provisional positions will be determined for the first three races by the 2017 Driver Championship point standings. The 4th, 5th and the 6th race of the 2018 season will use the current 2018 Driver Championship point standings.

                    G. In the event that an eligible participant does not use provisional positions by point standings, the remaining available positions open for the feature will be awarded to the highest finisher in the Last Chance Showdown that does not transfer. If there are multiple "LCS" races time trials will be the tie breaker.

                    H. The promoter may install a program identically paid and pointed as the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series provisional starting positions for up to 2 drivers.

                    I. In the event that a car qualified for the Feature is unable to present itself no later than the final pace lap prior to the initial green flag, the first non-qualified car will be taken as the alternate for the Feature event. The original qualified car will not receive points for the Feature race. If a qualified car takes the initial green flag and then falls out of the race, no alternate will be taken, and that car will receive only last place points for the Feature.

                    J. Any driver that requires a provisional to qualify for the feature at three consecutive events may be required to qualify for a feature through qualifying races before being awarded a fourth provisional. The fourth provisional may be awarded if the driver has a faster qualifying time than all other drivers who have attempted to qualify for all 2018 events that have failed to qualify for the feature event. If a car that has attempted to qualify for all 2018 WoO events and has not qualified for the event and has a faster qualifying time, then that driver will be awarded the provisional.

                    K. Provisional starting positions may not be awarded at the discretion of the Series Director for the following, but not limited to; if a car is deemed not be able to run a competitive speed; if a car is late to present itself for the feature event.

                    L. Once a driver has refused and/or chose not to use their awarded provisional, they will have forfeited their right to use said provisional for that night and it will be awarded to the next eligible driver with no exceptions.

WoO has six emergency provisionals along with the two regular provisionals, so we hit the max on Wednesday.

I would win that one hands down......no provisional needed.

Yeah. He got a provisional. He missed transferring through the B-Main by 1 spot. I was mistaken earlier. There were 8 provisionals again tonight. Only 22 transferred through the heats and Bmains.
