The one thing I do not understand. So we didn't cut the point fund, didn't cut the purse, but people just want to insist on paying more for shocks? I know somehow that makes sense to people but honestly it just does not add up to me.

I thought it you could accomplish the same thing, in our case win the same money, but do it for less money spent, that was called common sense???

its not the rule making bodies responsibility to tell anyone how much they can spend, its the rule makers job to make that spending less effective. Otherwise its iroc and everybody knows how bad that sucked, that's why it no longer exists...

Inerters can and do cost that much, but they haven’t been legal in any level of dirt late model racing in 3 or 4 years.

Exactly...inerters are not legal. Inerters are also not "shocks". This misconception comes from people that don't understand what an inerter is and even the early users of them in motorsports called them J-dampers so that people would just think it was a shock and ignore what was really going on.
Stan claims that there are shocks out there that cost $25,000. I'm still waiting for somebody to show me one. I expect it to be made out of gold.

Lets all try our best to make this sport better versus trying to tear the ones down that are. You may disagree and thats America. I got a news flash for you: picking words apart is exactly what EVERY good racer does when they read new rules. And you've provided some rules with some wording that is pretty darn easy to pick apart. You're going to have your hands full on both enforcement and interpretation. Me questioning what you consider a "shock" is going to be the least of your concerns. The lack of clarity on your dummy shock rule alone is enough to cause any tech man to go insane.

As I said previously, our National Awards banquet is next weekend. Saturday before the banquet is when we have our annual rules meetings and our teams have always been very good in helping us correct our wording and/or clarification thereof. Good group of racers really and although none of them really "want" to give things up, that may or may not be their advantage, they truly take the time to understand why we are doing what we are. Cooperation between the series and the teams makes things go a lot smoother. Big picture thinking.

It makes no difference how it's worded. Anytime the pen is put to the rule book, it costs racers money.This is something Steve Francis said and very true. If a rule takes side bite, forward bite or down force, the teams will be working over time to get what they can, back in some other way. If that way was cheaper, they would have done it that way to start with. I've seen this Dog and Pony show for 50 plus years. There is no fix for it. If the rules become too restrictive, it hurts the show, by making it mediocre IROC on dirt. When the front gate goes away, you have to make it up with the back gate. No matter how you look at it, it costs the racer money.

The fallacy that matt 49 propagates is that if no rules change guys won't go test and spend money to tweak what they have. Guys are already spending everytime they can afford to test and tweak what they have. Getting rid of bump stops and limiting LR hike is going to slow the cars down period especially when it gets slick. Yes guys will test to maximize what they have but no matter what lower decks and no bumpstops will slow the cars down. You don't even race superlates and don't your race on bullrings ?? So why is your opinion soo valuable ?? I know it's a different thread but you wouldn't shut up about how we needed 70" decks and 1000hp in supers on the LR drop thread ...
